[Update: 10:15am] EA has revealed that the PlayStation 3 version of Mass Effect 2 will featuresame content as originally released on the Xbox 360 and PC along with "hours of bonus content, making this the perfect introduction to BioWare's award-winning action RPG franchise."

Still a little vague as to what the bonuses are, but we're awaiting response from EA on questions regarding currently available DLC and the (slim) possibility of Mass Effect 1 appearing on Sony's home console.

[Original: 9:48am] The wait is finally over. Rumors of Mass Effect hitting the PlayStation 3 have finally come true. While Amazon let news slip earlier this morning that Mass Effect 2 would come to the PS3, EA has just confirmed the franchise would jump to Sony's home console.

During its GamesCom 2010 press conference, Bioware's Ray Muzyka revealed Mass Effect 2 would launch on the PlayStation 3 in January 2011.

It's unknown if the PS3 version will include the downloadable content currently available for the PC and Xbox 360 or if the content will be available a la carte. Shacknews has sent EA a request for clarification but has yet to hear back at the time of publishing.

Xav de Matos was previously a games journalist creating content at Shacknews.
