Classic Scrolling Shooter 'Raptor: Call of the Shadows' Lands on GOG

The celebrated vintage scrolling shooter Raptor: Call of the Shadows has taxied onto digital distributor Good Old Games, slightly updated in a $5.99 '2010 Edition'.

Cygnus Studios' 1994 shareware superstar has been revamped with "improved graphics and native support for higher resolutions," says GOG. If you don't enjoy the somewhat crude upscaling and filtering, however, you can have the original graphics.

As every broke mid-Nineties PC Gamer who relied on shareware collections and magazine cover disks for their fix of new games knows, Raptor was--then, at least--an enjoyable scrolling shooter with new weapons and tech upgrades to save for and buy.

I wonder if I can still "cheat" by replaying the first mission to get the SSM's and selling them for early cash boost.

Getting that auto cannon really helped.

This was the first pc game i purchased with my own allowance (I was 14). My mom drove me to Apogee games and I saw them working on Rise of the Triad while I purchased it. Fucking awesome.

You know a game is fucking brilliant when it goes on sale digitally 15 years after release and people are setting up accounts just to buy it.

As for me, instant buy. Good memories playing this with my brother and family friends during social gatherings (we were like 10 years old).

I actually bought the full version of Major Stryker (like a predecessor to this). It was supposed to come with a cheat code for perma auto fire (would have saved me some pseudo carpal tunnel) but the code wasn't in the box :( This was before I understood the internet or I would have just looked it up. Was kinda disappointed at the time.

So great! I hope the original devs get money for this. I loved this shareware. Kept us going in those years where SNES and GENESIS had all the cool scrolling games and pc gamers had....commander keen and little else

my co-worker and I have talked many times how we grew up playing the shareware of this game. We've both tried to find a copy of this game and play it, but never any luck.
