Firaxis Lays Off 20 Employees; 2K Vows Development of Civilization 5 Unhindered
by Brian Leahy, Jul 08, 2010 12:40pm PDTTake-Two Interactive has slashed 20 jobs at its Firaxis Games studio, responsible for past and future games in Sid Meier's Civilization franchise, according to a report at Variety.
The cuts are a "realignment of development resources at the studio" made by Take-Two. The company feels that "these reductions will not impact Firaxis' ability to create and deliver AAA titles, including its forthcoming Sid Meier's Civilization V and Sid Meier's Civilization Network for Facebook."
Variety puts the total reduction of staff at 15% based on previous estimates. Civilization V is due out on September 21, 2010 in North America and then September 24, 2010 in Europe. Civilization Network is still in development and should open up for beta testing this year before being released in 2011.
