Morning Discussion
by Alice O'Connor, Jun 10, 2010 5:00am PDTAs the weekend slowly approaches, prepare yourself for adventure with the brilliant music video for Losers - "Flush". Victorian stylings, cephalopods and monarchs as colossal bio-mechanical tanks. Truly the best of British. I'm told there's also some sort of soundtrack attached but I wouldn't know about that. Gawd save the Queen!
Personally I'm not thinking about the weekend at all, only the week of mega monster media mayhem that will follow--E3. I'll be running on USA time and no doubt barely sleeping but I'm feeling confident about it all. This should be a good E3 for Shacknews.

First things first - if you're 8-416, it sounds like you have some fundamentals issues. I don't say this to take a shot at you, I say it because you'll want to basically wipe the slate clean and forget everything you're currently doing.
A great place to start from the ground up is through TbirdSF4's tutorial series, first part found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch#!v=Qa4GJQFYM1s&feature=related He'll walk you through the very basics, along with several more complex game features down the line (buffering, for example). Watch the first few videos, and I bet you'll pick up a lot.
Next, I'd keep trying online. As in most other things, the best way to get better is to play people that are better than you are. You'll pay dearly for every mistake, but you'll learn from them quickly. I know how completely demoralizing it is to lose time and time again, but don't give up. Street Fighter IV has one of, if not the steepest learning curve in an online MP game I've played in years, coming from zero fighting game experience prior.
That's too bad about the chatroom, but I'd give it another shot. I'm in there quite a bit, and I've never seen anyone be purposefully rude or inconsiderate to anyone else. It's an awesome crowd, and the advanced players are willing to answer even the dumbest questions out there (I've asked them).
Beyond that, spend a lot of time in challenge mode. Don't worry about completing FADC trials, just learn a few basic combos that you can land consistently, and build from there. Keep it simple, and you'll be on your way to improvement in no time.
