Red Dead Redemption Sells Over 5 Million

13
Rockstar's open-world western Red Dead Redemption has "sold in" over five million copies worldwide since its PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 release on May 18, publisher and studio owner Take-Two Interactive revealed today in its financial results.

Exactly what the company meant by "sold-in" was not disclosed, though clarification may be on the way as it is holding a conference call to discuss the results shortly.

[UPDATE] As several readers have pointed out, "sold-in" refers to the number of copies that Take-Two has sold to retailers, not consumers. [/UPDATE]

In related news, Grand Theft Auto IV has now sold over 17 million units worldwide.

I'm guessing that means sold to retailers, rather than how many units were sold to consumers.

Yep, sold to consumers is referred to as "sold through."

      Still a great number, though.
