Morning Discussion

I picked up the first pack last night, gave one of the maps a bash and was happy with the entertainment I received for pocket change. Tonight I'll work on the other and have a jolly good time. Marvellous.
Of course, Defense Grid is able to do this because it's split into separate, unrelated levels. With games such as Fallout 3, Borderlands or Oblivion, more expansive--and expensive--DLC makes the most sense. However, I always find it offputting to know $30 of DLC will soon be released for my brand new $40 game. I waited for Game of the Year editions before buying Oblivion and Fallout 3, and plan to do the same for Borderlands.
$10 is not a lot of money but it's past the point of a casual, impulse purchase for me.

Apparently a patch came out last night - A few decent nerfs in my opinion. Did they reset the ladder? Any cool tournaments getting streamed this weekend?

As to the "we designed cool shit and fiddled" quote that keeps coming up. Yes, this is what game designers do. There are a couple of problems here:
1) They were starting from the most popular RTS game of all time which is largely believed to be perfectly balanced. Given those conditions, anything you would do would make the game less well balanced, less perfect. Starting from a point of "what cool shit can we come up with" is actually a way to free your brain from this problem.
2) It seems like people think that the new units and behaviors are what Blizzard has been working on for the last 5 years. But you guys need to understand, these are the units that made the cut. They probably started off with 100 ideas that they thought could be cool, and that they discarded for one reason or another. And now they have what they have.
