Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker Censored in Japan
by Brian Leahy, Apr 16, 2010 4:00pm PDTAndriasang reports that a scene depicting a "standard element... absolutely necessary for MGS" has been removed from the Japanese version of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (PSP) in order to secure a C rating (15 year-old), though the North American and European versions will not have this scene removed.
Leaving the scene in would have made the game rate a "D" in Japan, which corresponds to an M-rating in the United States. The game has been rated as T in the US (13 years-old) and creator Hideo Kojima is not happy about the differing standards.
While it isn't known what the scene depicts, Kojima has commented on the issue saying: "There's tolerance for fantasy games, but for games where you show war or real violence between people, you apparently can't complain about anything. With this, it seems impossible to communicate something through games."
Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker will be released in Japan on April 28 with the US release following on June 8. The European release slides in a bit later at June 17.

Im so glad I live in the States. We take a much more rational approach to this. Aside from the few oddball alarmists/opportunists like Senator Yee and JackThompson, I think we recognize that the root cause of violence is in fact not games (like any rational person would conclude.) I think it's funny that critics name Japan as a stunning example of progress and like to talk about how advanced they are yet their attitude towards 21st century media is still stuck in the 1800s.
I play the most violent games and yet im a perfectly normal person. Heck, I don't even own any airsoft guns. I think it's funny how people are always quick to blurt out "violent games cause violence" but yet they haven't actually thought about what they are saying. Anyone who plays games online is all too aware of how many little kids play online. We've all heard their (annoying imo) squeaking every time we play call of duty or whatever. There are probably tens of thousands of them. And yet, we aren't seeing these massive armies of kids rampaging across America. In fact, crime has gone down.
