More Infinity Ward Leads Resign from MW2 Studio

Earlier this morning, we learned that two more high-ranking developers at Modern Warfare 2 studio Infinity Ward had quit. Kotaku now reports that as many as four additional employees have resigned.

The departures have been suspected following the firing of studio heads Jason West and Vince Zampella, who officially announced their new studio Respawn Entertainment on Monday. Respawn is signed to an exclusive publishing deal with the Electronic Arts Partners program, which allows a studio to retain control of its intellectual property.

The reported Infinity Ward departures are:

Steve Fukuda - Lead Designer
Zied Reike - Lead Designer
Rayme Vinson - Programmer
Chris Cherubini - Lead Artist

This brings the total number of departures from Infinity Ward, including West and Zameplla, up to ten. No one has officially accepted positions with West and Zampella's Respawn Entertainment, but you can bet that you'll be reading that soon.

I don't know what the hell I did with my login info for the account I used on shack for years before it sold its ass with a bottle of ky to gamefly. But anyway, this needs to be said. I find it amazing that anyone thinks there has been a single inch of creative design or scripting in any CoD since CoD1. Activision can and will continue producing titles of the exact same "caliber" which is why they're so happy to tell the "designers" of the series to piss off. There's a fuckin' difference between production value and creativity. One can be mass-produced-and-paid-for, the other can't (as often).

What saddens me most about this situation is that a top-selling AAA title *can* be so easily replicated by affordable artists and Full Sail students. I blame all of you for buying CoD games and encouraging this designvomit. Knock it off.

Fuck's sake man you're amateur.

You can stop interviewing 2015 about the game. They are no longer working on MOH and are not working on any patches or upgrades. MOH PC products are being brought internally and will be developed in-house at the EA Los Angeles studio. There are some rumors that EA was not too happy with some of 2015's work.

This was back when EA was the evil giant publisher, Blizzard was still under Vivendi, and the Tony Hawk Pro Skater franchise wasn't nearly as driven into the ground as it is now.

I love how everyone is just throwing down uninformed assumptions left and right about what Activision wants from the CoD series. Aside from the PC issues, MW2 was a great game. I think they realize that in order to sell like a blockbuster, the next CoD game has to be just as good if not better.

Meh, I kinda wonder how much longer the COD franchise and go on as it stands anyway. Having the devs run off on their own might be a good thing. A chance to start fresh with a new feel at least.

Only question is, where are either going to go? Back to WW2 again? MW3? Vietnam? 2042? WW1? MW3 = MW2 + vehicles? Who knows.

This is it. This is the moment that the creative talent behind the most financially successful game ever leaves a huge publisher to regain creative control. Now we get to see if it really is all about the name, and Activision makes another billion, or if the unnamed and unknown developers can break through to mainstream recognition. This could change the entire industry by making it about the designers and artists and programmers and not some CEO with an Excel spreadsheet.

Or, their egos could be the only thing bigger than their coke problems, and they'll just crash and burn after a few years of vaporware.

It will be very interesting to see the long term fallout. As much crap as I give Treyarch, they actually did a decent job with WaW (single player and co-op at least was very good, multiplayer was ok, but I'm just so over WW2). They are improving each successive game, I'll give them that. I think they can have another AAA title or two out of the COD franchise, though in general I question how long they can sustain it, with the original COD devs or not.

CoD guy need to come up with somethign truly fresh.

At least now we can see why those 2 head dudes we're fired. They were obviously planning a mass exodus, and were going to sue to keep the IP for themselves, and so they were fired in advance to make their lawsuit that much harder.

Perhaps this is all common knowledge, but it seems to me as if people are suggesting that the new studio was formed, and everyone is leaving IW, BECAUSE the guys were fired.

While I love that this is happening, i wonder if the average Joe who buys MW games will even know about this. It'd be great to see enough people stop buying IW games for it to have an affect. They probably look at it like the PC backlash. People will bitch, sales will still be at the top.
