Aliens vs. Predator Trailer on the Prowl
by Alice O'Connor, Jan 28, 2010 8:40am PSTFollowing a string of fast-paced montages, Aliens vs. Predator publisher Sega takes a more sedate look at Rebellion's shooter with a new trailer starring the Predator itself.
Leaping from tree to tree, the towering trophy hunter shows off several of its abilities as it stalks its prey, including cloaking, cool-looking vision modes and the shoulder cannon plus of course the infamous Predator mimicry and... ventriloquy?
Aliens vs. Predator hits PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on February 16, with a Hunter Edition offering goodies including a plastic facehugger. The PC version utilises Valve's Steamworks suite for achievements, matchmaking, leaderboards and online storage.

This, and the fact that the marines motion detector is omnipresent at the bottom of the screen and not an item that needs to be equipped (say, instead of a weapon or with a side arm) are the things that have ruined the immersion for me with the AvP games, although I still love them to death.

I'm a little worried by the "choose where you want to jump to" cursor. You might can play it that way as a predator, but aliens (especially in multiplayer) are entirely dependent on extremely fast and accurate movement. "Point where you want to jump then execute" isn't going to be acceptable there.
I don't want to be all "Consoles ruin everything this will suck!" if its great I don't care how many platforms its on, I just don't see how you can maintain the alien style of play from the previous games against other humans using a control pad.
We never needed a "jump cursor" for the predator before.
I'm keeping my hopes up for now, I've always thought this was one of the best game series ever made and the single player will probably be fun regardless.

it's a bit weird, though, that a predator keeps its hands raised so very often, i mean, into its field of vision (imagine walking and running like that). apart from this, this is very, very promising.
The new sounds strike me as trying to sound too cool & modern. There was something primal about the original sound FX that these new sounds simply lack.
Anyway, I've already pre-ordered the game and this nitpick of mine doesn't change that.
