Morning Squidussion
by Alice O'Connor, Jul 14, 2009 6:50am PDTThere's a special chipper energy floating around the Shacknews virtual office this morning, the kind of energy that can only be channelled through cephalopods.
Squid and octopodes are of course the stars of the class, and even cuttlefish get a little screen time, but the poor nautilus is all too often forgotten. Few believe she was in that graduating class all those millions of years ago as her classmates have changed so much since then, but she was there alright. Secured tight inside a beautiful shell, with cold uncaring eyes and dozens of tentacles, she's my kind of cephalopod.

My Plantronics dsp500 headphones broke recently and i would like to purchase another pair and since these were pretty shitty for sound i think i want to treat myself to something nicer, so i am looking at some 5.1 headphones, but everything i find has some compelling reasons not to buy them.
My questions to all of you, are what do you wear and if 5.1 headphones are BS and i should just get a nice stereo pair.
I have a decent sound card i think, its a audgity zs2 but my previous pair were usb and worked well if that matters. I will put the pairs that i have looked at so far in reply.

5.1 headphones are kinda bullshit because all the solutions include headphones, so you're limiting yourself to whatever headphones they've selected rather than specifically purchasing a dolby signal processor or whatever and plugging you headphones into that..
As for a starter pair of headphones, i'd reccomend getting something that's comfortable and has a relatively low impedance.. Sennheiser HD595s, AKG K701s, etc..
