Morning Squidussion
by Alice O'Connor, Jul 14, 2009 6:50am PDTThere's a special chipper energy floating around the Shacknews virtual office this morning, the kind of energy that can only be channelled through cephalopods.
Squid and octopodes are of course the stars of the class, and even cuttlefish get a little screen time, but the poor nautilus is all too often forgotten. Few believe she was in that graduating class all those millions of years ago as her classmates have changed so much since then, but she was there alright. Secured tight inside a beautiful shell, with cold uncaring eyes and dozens of tentacles, she's my kind of cephalopod.

Since I'm waiting for 3.2 to really do anything with my Druid, I decided to make alts. Starting with Warlock, since it's the most dissimilar from Druid. Next I will level ???. I have Rogue and Warrior covered. Shaman is lame. Hunter is alright, but I've played it to death. Death Knight is dull, and Paladin was dull back when I played it, but that was pre-3.x. What do ya'll think would be interesting enough, knowing that I have Druid and Warlock going?

As far as the others, well, I'll start with Shaman. I love the idea of Shaman. And in many ways I like the class. But there's one large part of the Shaman that I really, really, really dislike, and that's the design of totems. In a game like WoW, in the game that WoW has become, you are far too mobile, far too movement-oriented, for a stationary buff like totems. I'm talking about PvP and leveling specifically here, I will add, and I know this is not a problem in long raid battles. But the fact that an entire avenue of a class is closed off except for one part of the game really pisses me off. There are times where there's an exception to the problems with totems and mobility, but the exceptions should be the rule. If they redesigned them as buff orbs/shields, like lightning and water shield, that moved with you, that would solve all my problems. But this one issue of totems hinders my enjoyment of that class to about zero.
Shadowpriests. They were interesting, much more so once I got Shadowform, but I don't know, I never found them all appealing for some reason. It's been a while since I played that playstyle, and with the dual spec, that could be more viable. Like I mentioned earlier, I hate healing but when I play a class that does it well, I feel compelled to play the healer role since many healers I meet are incredibly incompetent. So when playing a Priest, and especially a Shadowpriest who I still don't think is all that important, not nearly as much as a regular Priest can be, in a raid, I would likely default to healing.
And DK tanking is probably very different, and I'll probably get back into DK at some point cause while playing DK is routine, it's also amusing in many ways. Unholy's AOEability is pretty impressive.
