Morning Discussion: Slacker Edition

Slacking on a sunny Friday afternoon--we've all done it. Not us here at Shacknews, no--perish the thought!--but you out there, well, you're probably slacking right now. This is not a recommendation or endorsement of slacking, but should you find your eyes glazing over, why not watch the Monterery Bay Aquarium webcams? A few minutes of cavorting sea otters or prancing penguins could be just what the doctor ordered.

What's the demand for this looking like? I'm not going to camp out, but would like to pick one up.

I called my local Apple store - they told me my chances were slim. But when I called a local ATT store, they had a ton of 32GB 3GS in both colors, but no 16GB-S.

seems like everyone is going for the smaller size.. I dunno, an extra hundred bucks to double your space? I mean it depends if you want to keep it for years though, or update it when the next iPhone comes out. Me personally, I'd keep it for a while so I'd go large.

I have an 8GB nano that I thought I would never fill but it's getting full. 16GB would be an upgrade but when you start throwing apps and pictures on it, 32GB seems like a better choice.

i got the 32gb, so i can convert movies/tv shows to it. never know when you'll get stuck waiting on something and watching a tv show will make 30 mins zip by.

I wish Australia would release their bloody prices already! I need to know how much I'm going to be spending.

From what I know, June 26. That is next week and we have had no "official" word from any of the carriers on price.

man I'm so glad all the major telcos carry iphones here. Imagine if it was analogous to the US situation and only Telstra had them. That would be a fucking ass reaming.

Yea that is true, but in saying that I'll be going Telstra anyway, they have the best coverage here in my rural area.

what about vodaphone? I believe they fall back on telstras network when they cant find any vodaphone towers.

I'll have to have a really good look over all the 3GS plans once we get some prices and get some advice on what carrier to use. I've always just used Telstra because its always worked, but if I can save some money each month with a different carrier I guess I'll look into it.

Personally I would rather just buy my 3GS outright and stick to pre-paid.

My work pays for my cell phone (Sprint) but I'm going to take my number back and pay my own to get an iPhone.

well i still have like 6 months of contract on T-mo, so I doubt I'll really do it. It's been hard ever since I broke my 2g iphone in April. God I hate WinMo.

If they're on Sprint, the Palm Pre might be a worthwhile alternative. We've been deploying them at work and sure there's some negatives compared to the iPhone, but they're no slouch.

particularly when it comes to saving 60-80 bucks a month since the company is paying for it. That's almost like a mini-raise.

I had a pre for about a week, then went back to my treo pro. I talked my boss into putting me on the company's old ATT acct. Bad thing is I have to order the phone...i hope they hurry

I was off today so I headed over to the At&t store after I woke up around 10:45 and there was no line or anything just walked in. They were out of 16gig ones so I just went for a 32gig instead so maybe the 16gigs will be hard to find but seems like the 32gig are easily available if you don't mind an extra $100.
