PS3, Xbox 360 Motion Controller Rumors Spread
by Nick Breckon, May 01, 2009 5:04pm PDTRumors of motion controller-related announcements for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 are beginning to propagate once again in advance of E3.
Variety cites several sources in a report that claims Sony is preparing to announce a new motion controller for the PlayStation 3. The purported device uses a webcam and LEDs to achieve an accuracy of motion greater than that of the Wii.
Meanwhile, a tipster writing into Engadget says that Microsoft is readying a full-body motion sensing device. The rumor would see a high-tech sensor bar detecting a full range of movement without the use of an actual handheld controller.
As many motion controller rumors have certainly been proven false in the past, the Shack doctor recommends taking two grains of salt and calling us after the show.

Especially on my 360.
They already made it for kiddies with the damn avatar crap.
Now motion controls?
Next we know, 360 ads will be showing housewifes doing some exercises using 360 ... and that will be the day I sell my Elite.

I fail to see how this will benefit Sony since the Wii is already heavily associated with motion control in the public conscious and anyone who wants motion control will get a Wii so it won't get any extra sales. All it'll result in is a load of shitty Wii type mini games appearing on the PS3 that nobody will play.
As for the Microsoft thing, it sounds like it'll work exactly the same as the Eye Toy which is also crap. I'm all up for change when it's something positive like the introduction of the analogue stick but these new control mechanisms are crap and have produced nothing but crappy mini games.
Please, no more!

If they do start selling Xbox or PS3 motion games, I hope they are actually some good games that hardcore players will enjoy. I've been loyal to Nintendo for far to long without even owning a Wii yet, but I'll probably pass on that now.
That would be fan-fucking-tastic.

Question for the engineers on this board...how much computing power/resources would a console or PC have to dedicate to processing the input from a full body motion sensing device? Would that keep a core or three busy full time?

But sense its a rumor who knows what they actually have working (if it exists at all). Could just be the way the person who saw it is describing it.
