Weekend Discussion
by Chris Faylor, Apr 25, 2009 5:48am PDTEventually, there will come a weekend where I actually get to sleep in. Not today, obviously, and maybe not tomorrow, and probably not next week, but some day.
Of course, that's probably the same "some day" that I actually complete all these half-finished games in my backlog--ones I actually want to beat, like Resident Evil 5 and Fallout 3--but it's important to have dreams and aspirations and goals. Healthy, even.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a boat to be on. I might even climb a buoy!

A friend of mine has been bugging me to make a pizza recipe he can actually follow (meaning no esoteric ingredients, equipment, or procedures) and still makes a good pie.
Since I'm moving soon and won't see him and my other friends as often (meaning they can't come to my place and bum a pizza off me), I actually spent the last two days testing a recipe that uses nothing but supermarket ingredients and a stand mixer (which you don't technically even need if you're up to hand-kneading).
I know I've been coy and dodgy about my pizza dough recipes in the past here. That's not because I'm a jackass (I'm a jackass for other reasons entirely), but rather because the recipe and method is damn near impossible to follow.
I feel I've remedied that, and much like that chili recipe, I present to you a very long and very detailed pizza recipe that I have tested 10 times now in various ways and feel produces a pretty respectable home pizza that anybody can make.

e.g. Authorize.net, PayPal PayFlow Pro, LinkPoint/First Data Global Gateway
I'm trying to come up with an option that would allow about 10 clients to accept credit card payments on thier websites.
-Initial deployment would be to about ten websites, but that could expand to several thousand if this goes well.
-These sites are hosted in a shared hosting environment, so it is impossible to get an SSL certificate for each domain.
-I'm looking to offload the payment step to some third party website.
-These clients work in service industries (e.g. doctor, lawyer), so they don't sell "items," which makes me question whether shopping cart solutions would be of any use. I'd basically like a form where a user can enter the number of the invoice they got in the mail and an amount they want to pay.
-I want this third party payment website to be highly templateable so I can provide a relatively seemless end-user experience.
I know that the payment gateways I mentioned above allow you to redirect users to a form on their secure servers, but I don't have a good idea of how seemless I can make that transition. They usually say I can change background colors, upload a logo, etc. Without an example, that doesn't tell me a whole lot.
I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions.

I realized today that I almost never watch shows when they air anymore. I'm either watching them on my Tivo, or catching them later on Hulu or something. I'm guessing many people here do that as well. It's just not worth trying to schedule your life around a TV show, especially these days when it's completely unnecessary.
I can't wait for the day that video on demand is just standard practice for everything.
Case in point; I just finished watching How I Met Your Mother season 3, and there is nowhere online that I can watch the beginning of season 4 right now to catch up. Amazon, the only place I can find it, wants to charge me $2 an episode when I can pre-order the DVD of season 4 for $25. I'm perfectly willing to sit through commercials with video on demand, but I'm not paying $2 for 20 minutes of low quality streaming video.

I just played a dozen matches, and only won one of them, and that's because I was a bitch who whored out the Ultras and Supers - and even then I only won w/ about 5hp each time. :|
The other rounds I was lucky to even land a blow. There was one guy playing as Sagat and I literally could not move the entire fucking match. Just 12 seconds and I'm gone - I may as well not have even been touching the joystick...

I hate to pimp ads on the front page, but I've been looking for a sub 1000$ gaming notebook for a while.
All I need to run is Fallout 3 decently.

Just launched my new web designer helper tool, Color Hound. It's intended to help identify color information in the CSS2/CSS3 spec formats, but it doesn't have to be a css/html file that you input.
Please feel free to beat on it and let me know if you find any issues. I'm pretty sure that there are still some minor tweaks needed on some regular expressions I built. Probably a few other things as well. So far I've only tested on IE8 and FF3. So there could be some other browsers that have issues. Though the html and css code is pretty basic and the Javascript is mostly JQuery.
There are a few features I've got in mind that I'd still like to add, and I'm pretty sure my Javascript/CSS/HTML could use a bit of compression and error trapping, but this is the first 'beta' version if you will.
The regex search (large regex) is client-side, I need to make the various formats that it searches for optional to reduce unneeded overhead. Right now with a large file it can take a bit to process the search. On really large inputs my browser sometimes complains of unresponsive script issues.

This study investigated biased message processing of political satire in The Colbert Report and the influence of political ideology on perceptions of Stephen Colbert. Results indicate that political ideology influences biased processing of ambiguous political messages and source in late-night comedy. Using data from an experiment (N = 332), we found that individual-level political ideology significantly predicted perceptions of Colbert's political ideology.
Additionally, there was no significant difference between the groups in thinking Colbert was funny, but conservatives were more likely to report that Colbert only pretends to be joking and genuinely meant what he said while liberals were more likely to report that Colbert used satire and was not serious when offering political statements. Conservatism also significantly predicted perceptions that Colbert disliked liberalism.
Finally, a post hoc analysis revealed that perceptions of Colbert's political opinions fully mediated the relationship between political ideology and individual-level opinion.

In the game, you have Sir Francis Drake's super awesome diary that has all these clues to the mystery of where this treasure is, right? Using the diary, you have to solve these puzzles to unlock areas that supposedly hasn't been seen in hundreds of years and it's pretty cool. BUT you walk a couple hundred feet and then there's a room full of mercenaries waiting for you.
The real WTF is that these assholes have somehow hauled along a UHaul's worth of crates and barrels to enhance the surroundings with shit to hide behind. It's totally stupid.

But wait there is more
General Motors announced plans to cut 23,000 U.S. jobs by 2011 and slash 40% of its dealer network in its latest bid to stay out of bankruptcy.
Holy crap, wonder what towns are going to do with all those empty dealer lots and tax dollars gone up in the smoke of gm.

The 360 bracket is full and ready to go. If you want to start talking with your pairing, feel free but the week-long time allotment starts tomorrow.

The PS3 bracket has 15 spots left and I will let people sign up until Morning Discussion is posted tomorrow. If there are an uneven number of people, the people who didn't get paired will just get a bye (not sure what else to do about that)
