New S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Expansion, Sequel Revealed?

Developer GSC Game World has apparently revealed plans to release a second stand-alone S.T.A.L.K.E.R. expansion and a full-fledged sequel to the action-RPG.

The expansion, subtitled Call of Pripyat, is due out later this year, according to ClanBase and TTLG. Both sites, originally noticed by Blue's News, cite the same Russian language interview with GSC Game World president Sergey Grigorovitch.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 was also mentioned as being in the works, but no details were offered.

The post-apocalyptic first-person role-playing series premiered in 2007 with S.T.A.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl in 2007, followed in 2008 by prequel Clear Sky. While the franchise has only hit PC thus far, GSC is a licensed Xbox 360 developer.

Read some rumor about part 2 using the Cry Engine. Personally I'd like to see them use the new Flashpoint engine if they are going to license. Any which way I'm just happy they are developing more.

Coincidentally i've been playing Shadow of Chernobyl all day after finally figuring out how to not get my arse kicked at the beginning of the game! I'm still only a few missions in even though i've owned the game since it was released.

Now that i can actually run it at max settings with my 4870, are the any graphic mods or tweaks worth using to get the game looking as good as possible? I'm not exactly clued up on all that jazz.

I almost Love STALKER.

Its almost a great shooter, its almost a great RPG, its almost a great adventure game. Clear Sky was already an amazingly realistic landscape to explore with some of the most atmospheric environments I've seen in a game. Clear Sky looked like how I wanted Fallout3 to look.

Its like every aspect of STALKER is rapidly improving into what will be an absolutely amazing game. Don't get me wrong, Clear Sky was already really good, but at some points still a bit hard to enjoy. I feel if they keep working on it the franchise will turn into something amazing and it will get the fame and success it needs.

I thought GSC showed a lot of promise with the first Stalker. Then they took a big step backward with the expansion. I'm still not sure if they'll turn out to be a consistently good developer or a one-hit wonder.

I love STALKER. I just wish they hadn't included activation-based DRM in Clear Sky.
Hopefully they'll have realised their mistake and I can play this one.

And hopefully it wont be a buggy mess on release.

one question: i havent tried stalker since it got released. The one thing that really annoyed me was the instant crouch. It gave me a really bad first impression of the game. Have they fixed this in a patch?

Let's see if they can turn out a working game right away on their 3rd try, instead of the amateur bug fest that came before, without spending several months after release fixing it.

If I also remember right the lead designer was fired, so it'll be interesting to see if that will cause and improvement or not.
