Mortal Kombat Team Looking to Bail on Midway?

8
The internal Midway team responsible for development on the Mortal Kombat series is looking to leave the company, according to a Kotaku report citing anonymous sources.

The report says the team, which most recently developed Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, is currently in talks with various publishers in an effort to relocate. Sources indicated that the search for a new home began after Midway failed to pay out bonuses for meeting Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe sales targets. Midway representatives claim that the unsecured creditors committee is holding up the payments.

Midway announced earlier this month a plan to sell the Mortal Kombat franchise. At the time, Midway had proposed an incentive plan to give bonuses to remaining employees, while admitting it would be unable to reimburse ex-employees for unused paid time off.

but was it's fall due to the developers? or because of publisher pressure?

no way. we cant give up on MK. sure the series has spawned some duds (MK3, MK: Armageddon IMHO) but what franchise doesnt? i grew up on MK and still play it to this day. i own MK vs DC and love it. i just hope some company buys it and is able to breath new life into the series and bring it back to its original glory

I think the publishers had a lot to fo with it while the developers aren't tottallyblame free. One confirmed issue was the way Midway wanted to use the Unreal Engine for every game made during a period of time. MK vs DC was made with that engine, but it wasn't the decision of the developers to use it. So I can see where they have some merit.

i used to think the same thing when looking at the videos but ive managed to get my hands on my friend's 360 and i was surprised to find it simple and fun. Although the fatalities were a big disappointment.

Agreed. Nobody's been truly interested in this franchise since the MK3 days.

They need to scale it down and just release for XBLive or something.

thank you, let this ugly drag queen of a company sink and be forgotten about... maybe someone with half a brain will one day do something with it
