Evening Reading
by Steve Gibson, Jan 15, 2009 6:00pm PSTSo I think I am the kind of guy partly responsible for so many new shows not doing
well. I dont watch new shows and just sit down in front of the DVR every few days and
catch up on the old faithful shows. For a show to make it in to my rotation it has to be
around for 3+ seasons. I finally started watching The Office regularly just last year. So
basically I would like to offer a preemptive apology to Doll House. I dont plan on
watching it. yet. Sorry!

I'm looking at re-visiting some olden goldies (aka 70s/80s) classic movies from childhood to see if they stand the test of time.
i.e - Spaceballs (Planet Moron) - Willow - Quincy's Quest - Labrynth - Goonies
Can you recommend some more?

Do Various Artist compilations fuck with anyone else's system? The way I see it, there are two ways to go about labeling such compliations, and both have their flaws.
The first way is just to shove everything into 'Various Artist'. It keeps things cleaner when sorting by Artist, which is what I normally use, but it you're not assigning proper credit and that's a whole of of information missing.
The other way to do things is to give each track its appropriate artist. This is probably the more the proper way to do things, but then you have a whole bunch of artist entries with only one or two tracks per artist, which to me seems very ugly.
This is all solved in a folder system, of course, but I'm mainly concerned with browsing on my mp3 player (zune) which uses ID3 tags, which is where the problem lies.
Anyone found an elegant solution to this?

I'm going out of town so this is the last post about Registering for the January Open at http://www.holdemladder.com . The League should start up at some point on Sunday. We'll use this platform to do a for money tournament in the near future....I'm programing in the private leagues right now. This open tournament will help folks understand the format and how things will work. Plus it should fill the time as it is designed to be played on your smoke and bathroom breaks.
Use Safari, chrome, or the iPHone browser.
After Registering, Click on Play in a League and then register for the January 2009 Open.
After registering, go to the ladder and challenge the Lake Highlands White rocks and I'll play you in a game.

I am almost done reading the book and this is probably the best book I ever read (although I read maybe 10 books in my entire life) Is the rest of the "Song of Fire and Ice" serie about the same characters pretty much???
They should do games in that setting, would be awesome

My girlfriend's pc bit the dust last night, and I can't be arsed trying to fix it. She really wants a laptop anyway, for gadding about the house playing warcraft in her PJs, but she doesn't want a mac (for some reason). She just needs a machine that can:
* websurf, email, do Word, Excel
* play wow
* not grind to a halt using photoshop and illustrator
Is the Dell XPS M1530 any good? Does the GeForce 8600M GT cut it as a mobile graphics card, or is this laptop total overkill and could I get away spending less on her it?
Thanks Shack, for you are all knowing. Gronda Gronda, etc.

I live in an older house and I have hot-water radiators. Given the massive power outage in western Toronto, which thankfully passed us over, I got to thinking about my house's heating in the event of a power outage.
Would my house remained heated in a power outage?
It's a natural gas boiler, so there's always a pilot light burning.. the thermostat controls the gas, and the thermostat is battery powered.
OTOH, we have an electric water pump that distributes the hot water through the house, and I'm not certain what the actual mechanism is that opens and closes the gas valve (does it run off electricity?) . I'm wondering, would convection (inefficiently) circulate hot water water around the house?

They really went back to the roots of SF2 with SF4. All the new moves that the old characters got in the capcom vs SNK or the alpha serie are now gone. :/
