PS3 Firmware v2.52 Released

I was hoping for 1080p up-scaling(or whatever you want to call it) for all PS3 games. Or a resolution fix that does take the highest value available. So finally the user does not have to manually select it and unselect the other resolutions.

Its really strange, take Resistance 2 that just came out, the box says 720 and all the other sites as well say the same thing. But go into to your display panel and uncheck all the resolutions except 1080p and the game will run in 1080p, same goes for 1080i. Now if I have all the resolutions checked it always uses 720p. Now try the same method on little big planet and it reverts to 480p.

It seems like certain game will run in 1080p/I if you sort of force it. The weirdest thing was I was only able to force 1080i but now I can force 1080p which is freeking awesome on the game that 1080i worked before (maybe was the last firmware?).

Any one else find this out?

The biggest question I have is the PS3 not technically like a PC if in your display config you can display up to 1080p that you should be able to like a computer just choose your res even if the performance takes a hit? Must be locked in the actual software, like a freeking if statement.

One day, these things wont take 25 minutes to download and install :/

I was hoping this firmware would fix my disc reading problem, which started happening right after I updated to 2.50... unfortunatly not.

Anyone had their PS3 sent for repair/replacement? How long did it take? Mine is going, I'm waiting for the box to send it.
