Evening Reading
by Steve Gibson, Sep 25, 2008 6:00pm PDTSo uh.. I heard a rumor that some odd economy stuff is going on here in the USA. As
long as Diablo 3 keeps being worked on though I imagine we'll all be ok.

I already posted this in the expansion-news comments, but figured that since I went through the "trouble" of writing this, might as well make sure as many WAR players as possible see this. It has worked for many people I know, and it might work for you, if you are experiencing bad FPS or stuttering in PvP. So, a repost for the masses of Evening Reading:
There is actually a potential fix for the scenario/RvR lag / stuttering issue many have mentioned, and it worked for me at least. First, let me explain, so the solution doesn't sound as strange as it might:
Typically when you are doing Scenarios/RvR, you are in a group, and have group frames visible. In the group frames you can see what buffs and debuffs each group member have. These buffs and debuffs are, as it stands, being updated at least 10 times per second, maybe even more, hard to tell. The constant updating of dozens of effects causes client lag, perhaps best described as "stuttering". I was suffering from this even though I have a very up-to-date system. (C2D 3ghz, 4 gigs, 8800GT)
Luckily, some research into this yielded results:
http://www.curse.com/downloads/details/13745/
What we have there is an UI addon that simply limits the amount of times the effects are updated per second. The default value is twice per second, and with that value, it all but completely eliminated the stuttering for me. Scenarios are now very smooth. I recommend anyone else suffering from this problem gives it a shot.
There is also a second bug in the engine causing bad fps, that is not related to the same problem. It has to do with the game "over-utilizing" your CPU for some odd reason, leading to bad FPS. The fix for (at least some) Nvidia cards is at least as strange as the previous one: Try forcing FSAA and AF _ON_ from your Nvidia control panel. My CPU loads went from 95-100% to 50-70% when I did this, and my fps got much better all-around. If you are an ATI user, I'm afraid I have no solution to offer.
Lots of other possible fixes can be found at http://www.warhammeralliance.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=74 - these two alone however turned by WAR from a frustrating collection of bad fps and stuttering into a smooth experience.
Good luck.

My bro is one of the best footbag freestylists in North America, and is one of, if not THE most well known footbag videographer in the world. He recently was in Prague for the World Championships and had random Japanese fans coming up to say how much they love his stuff.
Anyways, here's one of his new videos, made when he was in Europe this summer:

I would like to have an opinion about an: INTEL CORE 2 QUAD Q6600 2.4GHZ 8MB 1066MHZ S-775
I'm just about to build a new office system and it was 4-5 years ago and I haven't kept up with all the stupid processor namings. I know a GF9600 something is adequate and 3-4 Gb of ram should be sufficient, but I a bit stumped on the choice of processor, nothing *to* fancy, its not for gaming but heavy office use (Visual studio 2008, video (trans)encoding etc).
But it still should last many years (say 4-5).
So what you say mighty oracle on the internets ?

After a bit of tweaking this config file, this really provides a nice alternative to the 'Very High' or 'Enthusiast' graphics setting in Crysis or Warhead. I had tried to run a mix of Enthusiast & Gamer settings, but it still slowed down too much in places. Messed around with the config a bit more and found a good mix that runs great.
This works best if your using DX9 with the config... you can use DX10 but there is no benefit at all really. After you set this up... you'll end up with performance just slightly below the 'High' or 'Gamer' setting, but looks quite a bit better.
Instructions for using this are included in that config...

My Benchmark Results in Crysis v1.2.1 using this Config @ 1440x900:
Min FPS: 28.62
Average FPS: 39.97
Max FPS: 45.62
Specs:
C2D E6600 @ 3.2Ghz
4GB DDR2-800
