Xbox 360 Avatar Creation Demonstrated in Video

This reminds me of other Microsoft efforts: Zune, Live search/maps. In other words bad Microsoft ripoffs, and why people accuse them of a lack of innovation.

I'm making a wild guess, but I'd say the reason Miis work for the Wii is the playerbase is largely children, dads and women. XBOX I'd say is mostly hairy 20 something men, judging from the success of Gears of War and Halo 3. I could of course be completely wrong.

i dont understand. why do i need an avatar? is it not enough to play games and buy shit off xbla?

The "My Xbox CHANNEL"? Channels? I can't believe they have even added Wii style sound effects. If there is one thing I dislike about the Wii interface, it's the sounds, I fucking hate the sounds and music on the Wii, especially the ringing ambient crap on the main channel screen, and the cheesy shop music.

The other thing I hate about the Wii interface is the fact it's so cold and white. At least MS have kept some colours for the 360 dash and thank god it's easily customiseable and we can put our own BG images and themes in there.

The avatars themselves are ok, but I'd be happy enough if they weren't there at all since they don't really add anything. Actually, I don't know if it's possible or not, but if the eyes and eyebrows etc. can't be moved around the head in the same way the Mii ones can then I suspect these avatars will end up being LESS customiseable than Miis, despite the apparent abundance of accessories.

It's all a bit pointless really, though the general dashboard cleaning up is reasonably nice.

jesus christ, is this cornball shit REALLY necessary? This seems to be an effort to make the 360 less threatening to the all important "CASUAL™" gamers and its going to fail. The system is geared to (or at least perceived to be aimed at) core gamers and trying to switch public perception in the middle of its service life is simply wrongheaded.

The Wii won this demographic MS, play to your own strengths rather than trying to change your entire public persona.

Sweet. Another innovative feature for this generation of consoles by Microsoft! Still...I heard a rumor they were developing some kind of motion controlled device...what a bunch of idiots! I have to admire their "out of the box" thinking, though.

Not really too interested with Avatars, I'm glad they have left an option to use the current dashboard post-update. Still, backing up to the HDD would be nice. ^_^

Sony needs to copy XBOX live because it is the defining online console experience, and nearly every one of its features is pretty much mandatory at this point to say you are competitive.

Its lame how much the eyes look like the Mii eyes... they almost look identical. Give me a break, i agree these avatars are kinda lame.

Cutesy little avatars do not fit my perception of what the Xbox 360 is. This will be interesting.

I though the dashboard was fine. I'd have been happy to a revision and layout change to the current dashboard.

Hmmmm, so is this new update gonna completely change the Live interface? If so I am less than thrilled, I guess I am just old fashioned but the interface they have now seems to be just fine. Mabye you can keep your old interface if you prerfer?

Jesus could they have ripped mii creation off any more? Even the fucking sound effects sound like on the Wii holy god. Not to mention the new dashboard, while an improvement, is very reminiscent of the PS3.
