New Marvel vs. Capcom Game Teased

With rival DC Comics pitting its characters against the cast of Mortal Kombat in the upcoming Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe (PS3, 360), Marvel has begun teasing a new entry in the fan-favorite Marvel vs. Capcom fighting series.

"Yes [a new Marvel vs. Capcom game is possible], and maybe sooner than you think," Marvel Studios production presient Kevin Feige revealed at the San Diego Comic Con following a fan question, as relayed by IGN.

The tag team-oriented 2D fighting series, which hit arcades in 1998 following X-Men vs. Street Fighter and Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter, pits Marvel superheroes such as Wolverine and Spider-Man against various Capcom characters, including Mega Man, Resident Evil's Jill Valentine, Street Fighter's Ryu and Darkstalker's Morrigan.

Marvel vs. Capcom later appeared on PlayStation and Dreamcast, with a sequel released to arcades in 1999 and later arriving on Dreamcast, PlayStation 2 and Xbox. Both the PS2 and Xbox versions have since highly-valued collector's items.

Capcom is known to have two fighters in the works, Street Fighter 4 and Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Cross Generation of Heroes, with the latter pitting Capcom's lineup against the work of Gatchaman (G-Force: Guardians of Space) animators Tatsunoko.

I still find it it odd that the PS2 and XBOX versions have since become highly-valued collector's items, as much as $50 more than the DC version. Sure, they're more rare, but the arcade original runs on SEGA's NAOMI hardware, which is essentially a Dreamcast (plus the PS2 and XBOX controllers suck for 2D fighting games). Shouldn't the DC version be the real collector's item then, as it's the closest home version to running on its native arcade hardware?

That was the hook of the game. But the real attraction for me was seeing three versions of Wolverine based on the comic books (almost palette swaps but not), Ironman plus War Machine, and loads other Marvel character variants rendered in fantastic hand drawn sprites.

Yes, how about SNK VS CAP 3?

Both MvsCAP3 and SNKvsCAP would rock in the SF4 engin.

In the mean time this will do as an import for my PS3:

I hope I'm not the only one who remembers MvC2 as a gigantic piece of shit.

Unbalanced characters, and the worst fucking soundtrack of all times. Give me SFvsX or MvC1 any day.

An MvC3 would be great.

Also great would be an arcade perfect (or at least as good as the Dreamcast port) version of MvC 2 for PSN and XBLA.
