So while working on cleaning up a bunch of video stuff around here as we prep to

finally unify the video system around here, we came across a worrisome bug that turned out

to actually be Flash related. If you're using FireFox or Opera and notice videos stalling,

Adobe is aware of it and it's actually fixed in the newer version. Just

As for the the videogame news around these parts for today:

Lastly, I had hoped to pick out a new skin for the video player last night but instead

spent all night trying to track down that silly Flash bug. So hey, if

  • Civilization Revolution....

Picked up my copy yesterday. Opted for the DS version because I'm never home for more than two hours a day anymore due to work.

Stayed up until 2am last night playing it. I wasn't sure how to take the streamlining until I realized I had played a full game in under 2 hours. I love it. Having your turns automatically move forward until you build/research something. The smaller maps and smaller city resource grids. The ability to actually play a TBS without having to re-calculate your GNP output from each city before you click on end turn.

Don't get me wrong, Civ 3 and Civ 4 ate up a lot of my time, and if I ever get some downtime, probably will again. It's definitely a different kind of Civilization and I love it. Some strategies are no longer possible, but the overall mindset is. I wish they had implemented the Civ bonuses and World Relics a long time ago. The new Civ bonuses do wonders for separating Civs and ensuring they play differently. Civ 3 and 4 I could basically use the same strategy with just about any Civ that was picked, just get the right government and religion going. Civ Rev is just glorious with rewarding you with useful stuff if you're playing into your own hand. Cities start with extra population? Use it to rapid expand and take the early game's resources and relics. Loyalty and Veteran bonuses built into your units from the get go? Forget expanding, just start pumping units, create a few armies, and take what you need!

If Civilization 4 is the collection of prescription pills in my medicine cabinet my doctor writes because he feels sorry for me, Civ Rev is the crack rock I have hidden in a little baggie under my tongue when it finally catches up with me.
