Square Lists E3 Games, Final Fantasy 13 Not Shown

22
Japanese RPG powerhouse Square Enix has revealed the lineup of titles it will showcase at next week's E3 Media & Business Summit.

Going by the list, Final Fantasy XIII (PS3) and its action-based offshoot Final Fantasy Versus XIII (PS3) will not be on display at the conference. It is believed that the company will instead highlight those titles at a separate event in Japan later this summer.

Of the games below, five are said to be playable, while the rest will be demonstrated through trailers and other hands-off presentations.

Maybe I'm just jaded but I care more about FFIV and Chrono DS. Maybe because I'm sure FF13 will be a huge letdown.

Why? Because it's not going to be some turn-based monotofest like everything before XII was or you have a legitimate reason for thinking the game will be a stinking pile?

Minus FFVII, right? I'm sure that's what you meant...

FFVII through X-2 were amazing games when they were released, no doubt. But they wouldn't hold up at all if released today. That was my point.

All of the complaints against the series moving towards a semi real-time environment are kind of silly in my opinion. With the changing industry, the choices made in FFXI, FFXII, and now FFXIII make sense as a logical progression of the series' game mechanics.

I booted up FFVII on my computer recently -- the image was in a 6-inch box on my screen! The resolution was so low. I can't believe that my imagination filled in so much when I was a kid.

You're right, though, and I think about that a lot. I think FF7 was greatest game ever made (or at least the greatest game I've ever played) and there is a whole new generation that won't be able to enjoy it because we are now so used to far better image quality.

This is why they need to remake FF7 on either the PS3 or PS4. It must be done.

Haha. You were confused about the headline, I tried to make it less confusing. Sorry :(

I think we might see a "surprised" snippet of the game or it will be unveiled at TGS which is a couple months away.

I wonder if the reason Square isn't showing it is if Sony is going to showcase it at their Press conference.

That'd be like a Hospital in North Korea getting a new EKG donated from the Red Cross but Kim Jong-Il took it and said he built it and in all his graciousness is giving it away to that hospital without writing it off on his income taxes.
