Guitar Hero: Metallica Confirmed
by Aaron Linde, Jun 02, 2008 1:48pm PDTDetails in an Activision SEC filing uncovered by GameSpot has confirmed the existence of a new Guitar Hero title focused on the long-running heavy metal act Metallica in Guitar Hero: Metallica, scheduled for release in early 2009.
"In fiscal 2009, we plan to publish Guitar Hero: On Tour for the NDS; Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, Guitar Hero: Metallica, and Guitar Hero IV across multiple platforms," the company said in the filing.
Activision's 2009 fiscal year ends on March 31 of next year, pinning the previously unannounced Guitar Hero: Metallica for a release prior to that time. The multiple-instrument update to the series, Guitar Hero IV, is expected this fall, making a release in the 2008 calendar year unlikely for Guitar Hero: Metallica.
No platforms were divulged in the filing, though Activision's other band-centric offshoot Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is slated to appear on the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, Xbox 360, and Wii.
Thanks to Masem for the heads up.

No self-respecting gamer will repeatedly buy a game every year -- a game that is essentially the same as the previous version with only minor iterations and additions to the playable talent roster. That would be ridiculous!
They would never try this in, say, a football game because it would dilute the quality of the franchise and anger their consumer base who would suddenly find themselves paying an annual $60 fine to "enjoy" the same sub-par gameplay without any perceivable innovation or improvement... oh, wait!

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith brings these quintessential rock legends to the interactive realm to create the ultimate gaming experience. As fans progress through their careers in the game, they can rock out to scores of Aerosmith's greatest hits, as well as songs from celebrated artists that the band has either performed with or has been inspired by in some way.
So ... what? We play awesome music for the first four tiers, then some melodic slow shit, tier seven is MISSING because everyone's in rehab, and the final tier is a rehash of Raining Blood except the audio's played on reverse?
No thanks >:(
seriously though, this is awesome. i'm picking it up because metallica's early stuff was good and rock band STILL isn't available here yet.

Bitch all you want about having too many purchase options in the GH family, but this is awesome news. This announcement could really only be topped by GH: Led Zepplen in terms of what I would look forward too in a game featuring guitar heroics.

i'm sure i would enjoy the aerosmith (and mettalica), but feel like i'm being fleeced by dropping another sixty bucks, when GH4 has already been announced. Especially if you were to buy a bundle knowing full well the guitars/features are getting an overhaul in the next version...

Seriously, I don't want to turn into a fanboy of one side. I have Guitar Hero 3. I keep it around just to play the Halo song.
But FFS, this is just pathetic.
