Grand Theft Auto 4 Arrives April 29

Rockstar North's long-awaited Grand Theft Auto IV (PS3, X360) will arrive in stores worldwide on Tuesday, April 29. Publisher Take-Two Interactive, which had vowed the game would hit by April 30 following last fall's delay, announced the date today.

Today's news tails yesterday's flood of new GTA4 details, which included word of a Resident Evil 4-esque free-aim mode, a reworked wanted meter that only recognizes crimes if witnessed by police, the option to instant warp back to a mission's start point in the event of failure, and the ability to get drunk.

"We are so excited to be releasing Grand Theft Auto IV," said Rockstar founder and executive producer Sam Houser. "We've pushed ourselves very hard to make something incredible and hope the game sets a new benchmark for interactive entertainment."

I got sick of this franchise a few hours into San Andreas because it was the same thing rehashed... but I hope this one brings enough gameplay changes to be different. Lookin' forward to the shack's review ~three months from now.

What are the differences between the PS3 and 360 editions? I think this might be a system seller for me. I'm leaning toward the PS3 version now due to the Blu ray perk and the lack of desire to support the 360's falliability. I would miss the FF in the controller though.

Whew. I was afraid it was going to stretch to October.

I can't think of many games off the top of my head (well, barring WoW) that had as much gamespace-changing impact as the first 3D GTA. Greatly looking forward to this.

God damn, I'm happy its getting released but also pretty down it won't be out on the PC for ages.....

Wow I am really happy that the release date is sooner than I expected! I'm guessing the Europe release will be on the following Friday. Do we have any information on the Europe release date?

I also love the wanted meter which will only increase if a cop sees the crime.
