Evening Remo
by Chris Remo, Dec 12, 2007 6:25pm PSTYou know, in my experience there are enough online shenanigans without developers encouraging more. For that matter, there are enough peripheral compatibility shenanigans without Vivactard encouraging more. And hell, there are enough Hollywood shenanigans without Uwe Boll encouraging more. Cut out all these shenanigans, video game industry.

I get ambushed and my 500 pound alien frog friend in battle armor stands in the middle of the hallway like a fucking boob catching bullets with his face. Was kind of aggravating at first until I found myself having an easier time when he just died at the start.

Depending on the world (fantasy or futuristic, whatever) a KOTOR-like combat system would be awesome, with an Oblivion-style first-person or third person view with KOTOR style preset battles where you plan your battles out then watch things go. Of course you could go with a hands on combat system, but i like the plan--your-battles style, and it would be cool to see them in first person mode.
As far as character interaction, I would have an integration of Mass Effect dialogue system with Half Life. The great thing about Half Life was that the characters show a lot of emotion both in facial and the way they move. In Mass Effect people tend to be much more stiff and everyone pretty much stands in one place when they talk.
I like in KOTOR how in a certain sense the world you enter is a blank slate, and how you choose to act effects your party. I would have a good and evil meter based on your choices, and have your companions reflect your actions.
Finally, from the get go your character should be fully customizeable, a combo of Mass Effect and Oblivion, with the ability to form a basic background, along with your characters image from head to toe (like Tiger Woods) and basic starter stats. What would be awesome is if there was a way to use the camera to make your character look like you.
I personally think having your character speak takes from the experience, although I know some people like it so I would not have the main character speak.
So thats all for now!

For those that missed it, you can now create a pre-made lvl 70 character on the Public Test Realm. According to a forum post, you can now go to the PTR Character Copy page and copy pre-made characters to the PTR. I just did this with 3 pre-made toons, so it works, it'll be fun to test out lvl 70 characters, especially for those who have never had lvl 70 characters..

Continued from http://shacknews.com/laryn.x?id=15759578#itemanchor_15759578
After i blew up my third frigate by warping too late out an impossible mission, i loaned me some moneys and bought a tougher ship. Juicy detail: the station where that ship was docked , was situated in 0.5 space. So i had to fly my very expensive unfitted boat back to 1.0 (safe zone) without getting nuked from orbit by pirates and whatnot. Much silly exitement was had.
It is funny how much you appreciate stuff this early in the game, just because you can lose it all. I found myself shouting at a stargate "PLEASE WARP PLEASE WARP PLEASE WARP" while several skull icons and other ships with questionable intentions floated around my little cruiser.
On top of that: the Shacknews channel much fun. People are nice, extremely helpfull and call eachother fags. What else can you ask for? A huge fucking thank you goes out to zerog83 for helping me out and making my head explode on a regular basis. You sir, are cool.
TLDR: This game is fucking rad. I am going to register even though i have 4 days left on my free 14 day trial.

The bank's compensation pot - or the money used to pay employee salaries and bonuses - is estimated at $20 billion, the report said. Based on Goldman's 29,000 full-time staff members, that would come to about $360,000 per person, the FT said.

I'm looking to upgrade into the 24" class of LCDs. What does the shack recommend? I'd prefer something I can run my ps3 on at 1080p. Also, do any computer screens these days have HDMI input?
How much should I sell my Dell 2005 fpw with my x2vga2 for? My friend is thinking about buying it from me.

More specifically, Computer Science people.
We're doing Deterministic Finite Automata, and also their reversal [hence creating a non-deterministic automata.]
So, we've got a question that we've to create the DFA from the NDFA created from a reversal. However, it has some incomplete paths... and our rather insane [and we're sure harbouring homicidal tendencies, based on his lectures] has neglected to tell us how to deal with incomplete paths...
So, if 2 start states in an NDFA are B and C, the new start state is {B,C}
and on an input of 0 if the B goes to D, but the C has no path on a 0 input, what is the next state going to be called?

The grinning Pole, who came to Britain from the town of Bialystok ten months ago, said: "In Manchester there is no snow, is more money, is more going on, and is more pretty girls.
"In my home country girls are not so pretty. Girls here, they like having a good time.
"I go out for a drink and the girls they love my accent. They think I am very nice."

My cousin just told me about a Celebrity Duets episode which featured the professional guest judging of Little Richard... apparently much hilarity ensued. Having some serious trouble finding this video and I was wondering if any of you had come across this video, and had a working link.
What was your biggest gaming suprise of 2007?
For me it was Overlord. I had never even heard of this game before a coworker was telling me how great it was and how much fun he was having with it. Came totally from out of nowhere. And yet it was probably one of the most fun games I played all year. Not that often that a game I've never even heard of ends up being fantastic
(Disclaimer: I still don't have The Witcher yet so maybe this post should've gone to that. Maybe next year...)

Well, he's got an interactive whiteboard using the Wiimote as a camera and an LED "pen":
