Mario Galaxy Sells 500,000 at Record Speed
by Carlos Bergfeld, Nov 21, 2007 10:52am PSTThe "Mario Mania" of previous console generations has seemingly returned in full force, as Nintendo's Super Mario Galaxy (Wii) became the fastest-selling Mario game to date in its first week at retail.
The title shipped 500,000 copies in the seven days following its launch, Nintendo announced today, also making it the fastest-selling Wii game since the system's launch last year. The data comes from Nintendo's internal sales figures.
Games in the Mario series have sold a total of more than 198 million copies since the plumber's NES debut. For more on the title, check out Shacknews editor-in-chief Chris Remo's review, where he says Galaxy "taught me to love again."
