Clive Barker's Jericho Demo

I just played through the demo. And I'm not ashamed to say that I found it kinda sorta frekin' awesome. Control is spot on with both mouse & keyboard and gamepad. This game has full support for the 360 gamepad so it tells you "press Y to do this" etc.

Controlling the different squad mates is fun and interesting. Watching the AI controlled characters play their roles (like the sniper chick kneeling and taking an advantageous position) when you're not controlling them is cool to watch. Although you can pretty effectively take out any of the enemies in the demo with any of the characters, I'm sure the whole game isn't like that.

Visuals are eerie and effective. Think of playing in the "dark world" of the silent hill games for a whole game. Everything has that out of focus sickly shiny look all painted with blood and splashed with filthy water.

There is a sequence when you go off alone as one of the characters and I found it genuinely scary although mostly due to the fact that I didn't have a very good handle on how to control her yet. The game has potential to be very frightening at times.

There is an annoying timed button pressing scene near the end of the demo. It's one of those sequences ala Heavenly Sword & God of War where you just get to do it over and over until you get it right. When these things are based completely on trial and error, and there is no penalty for messing up, I find them pointless. I'd would have rather just watched the awesome sequence that you're guiding the character though. Plus these things are kind of lame with PC controls.

The game looks great and performance is acceptable at 1024x768 on my superclocked 8500 GT & Q6600 running Vista. I recommend any shooter fan check it out.

Yikes. Froze my system twice, once during gameplay and again before it even hit the title screen. This was after the sound clipped out. The five or ten minutes I got to play had me skeptical, particularly regarding the controls, but it felt like something I could get used to. Anyway, I'm looking forward to a _working_ full version next month! I loved Undying to death and was really hoping this would be similar in atmosphere. I had my doubts about it being "just another shooter" and am glad to know I was wrong.

OK. So, the first time I tried downloading this from the Shack, I got to 93% and the New York server crapped out.

The second time everything downloaded fine but the file was corrupt.

Sigh. That's 2gigs already gone for a 15min demo, dammit.

Ok, one more time. I better have it by the time I wake up or the internet's gonna pay.

Man, I was totally impressed by this until I came to the climbing puzzle that killed me like 30 times because I can't hit buttons fast enough. Went from must purchase to must avoid in 5 mins.

Nice atmosphere, somewhat fun combat.

The button-pressing minigame can die in a fire. I've played exactly three games where that was fun: God of War, God of War 2, and Tomb Raider Legend. In all three cases (well, less-so in GoW2, and it was annoying), the minigames were short and could reasonably be completed on your first try if you were on the ball.

Blech...that's just nasty. I like horror, but I'm just not into gore enough for this based on the screenies.

Hell the devs out there should start using this engine over the UR3 engine it looks the same yet runs stable, smooth and supports many needed options. Jarichos engine has wide screen support, AA, just as good graphics, runs a hell of alot better and doesn't crash your rig and thats just to name a few. The UR3 engine looks good but thats about it.

Loved this. I was already planning on buying it on account of Clive Barker, but this has justified my optimism effortlessly.

I thought the involuntary camera motion during gameplay was a great piece of immersion. The glance down as you reload, or the hectic swing as you throw a punch. Very nice touch.

Did no one tell the voiceover guy from the intro movie that this game is supposed to be creepy? Dude sounded like he was doing football commentary.
"Okay Mr. Voice, gimme generic tough guy announcer number five."

Wow. That was surprisingly awesome. I'm looking forward to the full game; the atmosphere was great, the gunplay didn't seem too bad, the graphics were spectacular, and I liked the "feel" to the game. The controls are the one thing that could use some work (I had to move my mouse very carefully since I couldn't lower the mouse sensitivity in-game to anything other than "low").

seriously, this makes this demo completely unplayable for me.

the original hitman demo was similar, and the demo of hidden and dangerous (2, maybe) was too.

i mean, what the hell? this totally pisses me off. >:(

is quicksilver not healthy today? was getting a really slow 200KBps, went to a normal mirror like WA and get a nice 2MBps

I liked Undying a log, even though I never finished it. I'll definitely give this one a try. I just hope my machine can run it.

Demo was too short, but enjoyable. 40 dollars on Amazon, not a bad price for a game with this high level of eye candy. "interactive" cutscene was a bit of a pain with the keyboard though. Love the mind bullets...

Holy shit that was awesome. And despite the fact that other UE3 games run like ass on my system, this flew. This went from a wait and see to a must buy from this demo. Which kind of sucks since there's so much stuff I already want this season. :P

Wow, I must say I'm impressed. Graphically very nice looking, switching of team members, everyone has their own weapons and powers, some puzzles, very smooth gameplay.

Me definitely like.

The demo is very short, and it was pretty meh for me. I didn't much care for the team aspect and the way the "powers" and healing are. No longer interested...

Is this UE3? I find it kind of rediculous that a dual core okay a low end dual core system with a 7800GTX has trouble running that engine. Bioshock was barely tolerable, and that was only cause I was using the wrench the whole game. If it had been an honest to god shooter like this looks to be, it wouldn't have been enjoyable at all.

Please don't call me crazy or retarded, but when I hit any of the servers, mercury, or quicksilver, I get the pop up that never loads. Happens with Firefox and IE. Whats up?

Hmm, I got like 1.5mbps on the Bioshock demo but only about 125KB/s on this demo. Is there a different amount of bandwidth provided for different files on the Quicksilver servers?

Does it require SM3.0? I want to try this but dont want to waste download time again (BioShock & MOH:Airborne).

I hadn't paid attention to this at all, but it's coming to GameTap 10/23 too. I assume that means the subscription service as well as the store, because it's listed in the Deluxe Player.
