They take gamers (their customers) for complete assholes.
That's either marketing bullshit at its best from MS or total lazyness from Crytek.
Not sure which one is worst..

Honestly though, I saw lots of stuff in the 'DX10' segments that could also be done in DX9. Good looking smoke? COD 2 had that. Nice rain? Several recent games have rain that looks as nice as what I saw in the clip. The atmospheric lighting (shafts of light) in the Jungle Fight could certainly be done in DX9, as could the 'extra' particle effects. Even the fire effects don't look too different, though there're more of them in the DX10 segment-
The deformation of the smoke and fire is very cool, however! (though I do wonder if it's precalculated...)
What does really impress me though is the difference in quality of the lighting models. In the Alien Hunter clip, the lighting on the hunter is just much, much nicer, and the self-shadowing on objects is awesome, as is the shadowing in general. In the Jungle Fight clip I see the same things: better lighting, and better shadowing.
I'd love to see a clip with the exact same demo run in both modes- then we could really see what's different between the two API's.

Like, hey look at all this extra stuff we can do in dx10 at no cost?

Why should dx9 be able to render that rain? bah!

i would probably like to mimic their setup exactly ... i want that performance.
time get a new video card
A lot less noticable in the jungle one, thanks to the foliage offering some variation in tone and color.
inCrysis: What are some of the sort of exclusive things we will be able to see in Crysis in DX10?
Bernd Diemer: It mainly is around particles, light effects and interaction with the environment. DirectX 10 is very good at if you have a lot of stuff going on on the screen, it handles that really well, like a lot of particles, a lot of physical interaction between objects and you can have a lot more stuff on the screen with DirectX 10, with better performance... that's about what you can say. As to exclusive DirectX 10 features per se... we won't have something related to gameplay which is DirectX 10 exclusive, so it's not that you will get a different experience from the gameplay perspective when you play on a DirectX 9 card but what you will get is a much more intense experience on DirectX 10. It makes the world come more... alive.

I refuse to watch any footage of this game until it comes out. I'm in fear it will become an endless story.
i think i might upgrade then for this game.
looks awesome -- i can't wait for this game. i haven't played a decent single player FPS since PREY and im sick of waiting for another good one.
this looks like an awesome blend of far cry and soldier of fortune 2 ... that jungle fight looked awesome, especially in dx10
