DirecTV To Launch Massive Gaming League

As part of their CES activity, satellite television provider DirecTV has announced plans to start the Massive Gaming League which they say will be videogame tournament covered as a sporting event. There will be actual footage from the games, and the competitors will be profiled through interviews and features. No word on what sort of games or platforms the program will focus. The Massive Gaming League will launch this year.

I hope this turns out nothing like that gaming show that used to be on (not sure if it still is) TechTV/G4. That show was totally worthless.

Using new technology that allows for the placement of cameras within an actual videogame, DIRECTV will produce a videogame tournament and cover it as a sporting event, complete with producer, director and technical crew. Stories of the competitors will be told via interviews and features, complemented with coverage of their exploits in actual competition. DIRECTV plans to launch the Massive Gaming League in 2006.

Placement of cameras within an actual videogame? Whoever wrote the PR has no clue how stupid that sounds.

I know chances are they are going to show Bejeweled matches. However, if they could show an RTS from a camera man perspective, I'd watch that. Even BF2, but that would require a lot of editing.
