First Post!
by Maarten Goldstein, Oct 04, 2005 4:22am PDTJust a few hours away from the start of X05, which will begin with a keynote speech and after that the press is free to get drunk and play some 360 games. Unfortunately I have to drive home so my PGR3 impressions should be of the sober kind. There is internet access at the event, however I am unsure if there's wifi or not. If there is, I'll be sure to update about the keynote as it happens.

Possible spoilers abound here. DO NOT OPEN ANYTHING HERE IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW. These are theories anyway. I'm sure I'm WAY off!
I do have more theories on what is going on. I've changed some stuff from the last time I posted too. Basically, I'm trying to polish up my theories. :)
One theory I mentioned was one of the popular cast members that went down in flight 815 was on the island once before, and I explained why I thought it was Locke.
Somebody was kind enough to point out to me that a producer said something to the effect of "Nobody has ever gotten off of the island." But I found that the producer started the sentence with, "as far as we know." That to me says that it's still possible that somebody did in fact get off that island... we (possibly including him at the time) just didn't know about it.
I've changed my mind about the whispers. Originally, I thought it was Walt alone. I thought he had some ability involving telepathy, and he was unintentionally pushing his thoughts on people on the island. I realized quickly that that does not make sense... people heard whispers long before flight 815 crashed. I was wrong, though I'm not dismissing the idea of telepathy being involved somehow.
Also something mentioned by the same producer; nothing that happens on that show is supernatural, but rather explainable by science. So that says to me it has nothing to do with some previous theories I've heard are popular, such as everyone being in some limbo between life and death. And let's just hope aliens aren't involved! Personally, that would be such a disappointment.
One thing I am trying to consider is, just how far are they (the producers) are stretching the term "science". Let's keep in mind that many science-fiction stories from the 60's, 70's, and even 80's, are science fact now.
I still believe strongly that it started as an expiriment involving the genetic enhancement of human-beings. Whatever it is, and I'm sure it's obvious I didn't major in biology, it was a project meant to enhance mankind. I think that it involves enabling a body to self-heal a broken spinal column, or even evolve the brain through altering genes.
One theory I have is the gene-altering was intended to work as an airborne virus (hence the "quarantine" on the inside of the hatch)... infecting anyone it comes in contact with.
I think either the virus mutated causing certain people on one side of the island to get sick, or when older people get "infected" with the intended virus, they pick up the ability to read minds too quickly and strongly that they go mad in the jump from being normal to being super-humans. They are bombarded by all of these confusing thoughts, and they can't seperate the whispers from the actual voices. The whispers are their own self-conscious minds acting up on them. ie. Sawyers, "It all comes back around." Eventually driving them mad.
This idea of genetic enchancement being more susceptible to younger humans might explain why they wanted Claire's baby so badly... and why they (Ethan possibly) tried to inject it while still a fetus (with the gene enchancement?). Something that doesn't make sense about that idea is why they let Claire go... I'm thinking because they found out they had the wrong child... They found out somehow that they really wanted Walt (who already had the abaility). I'm so confused! Why?!
One idea I have that I didn't mention is they are all (everyone on the island) developing telepathy... they are all getting infected with the "virus", and this is why they all (a lot of them anyway) are hearing the whispers. This is why Jack saw his father, this is why sawyer heard, "It will come back around." They are battling their own consciences. This is the beginning of what made people sick. Walt has it stronger, because he is making his imagination actual reality (the bird hitting the window and the polar bear from the comic). He is special, or "different" (as his adoptive father had mentioned.) He's a child, so he is using the power differently (as it was intended). He was already advanced, so that is why they want him so badly. Walt has the shining. :D
I'm going to go out on a limb here... I explained my idea of genetic enchancement. I think the major force of the island has to do with the person spearheading the expirement. He/she has utilized the expiriment to make themself the nearly perfect super-human as far as they could go. I think Ethan along with many others work for him/her. I think that they desire a child that is somehow prone to the "gift" to use for whatever might be their intended purpose. As for what their purpose is? I dunno, hehe.
I'd love to again explain my theories further... I've hardly scratched the surface here. Respond if you will :) I could just be stupid. I still haven't figured out the numbers. I still have no idea about the symbol (even being on the shark!). I still don't know what the countdown entails. I'm pretty sure it was a TRS-80 and not an Apple. Apple never had an 'execute' button.
I only know that the others are the pirates. :D

Who is going to the concert on Oct. 11? I know NexusOne, esmokah, and possibly melkore will be attending. (as well as myself and tsuba)
We should get together for a mini-MN shackmeet before/during/after the show!

Wow, this country/city is pretty cool. Just got back from a weekend in Keswick up north, back in London finishing up my touring, gonna see the Producers this Friday I think.
Only bad thing thus far: someone stole my Canon SD400 w/ a 512MB mini SD i n it . :-/ Other than that, it's been a pretty good time. :-)

When I was dueling here, I had the zany Star Trek fight song running through my head: http://the_archvile.shackspace.com/New%20Folder%20(3)/atriumofdeath.jpg
df kept trying to gauntlet me, but I held him off most of the time. Interesting pose here, though: http://the_archvile.shackspace.com/New%20Folder%20(3)/imustbreakyou.jpg
And what's a Q3DM14 fight without BFG duels between those who can find the top opening, or can double-jump on the platform? DKo5 landed a BFG kill right on getting the gun, but then backflipped into the fog of death: http://the_archvile.shackspace.com/New%20Folder%20(3)/bfg_fight.jpg

Also, The Diamond Age looks kind of ... strange as well. It's got a sci-fi setting which I like, but the story itself sounds a bit dubious.
Opinions? I've read Snow Crash

What preorder bonuses do you guys like? And which ones are dumb/useless?
For example...
Quake 4 Shirt - kinda cool, but I don't really wear T-shirts too much. Especially ones proclaiming "I'm a geek!"
Civilization IV CD Soundtrack: OK, I suppose - but it's not a given your game will have cool music. Or that I'd even want to listen to it outside of the game.
Civilization IV Leather Slipcase: Potentially cool. Depends on how big it is
Civilization IV Spiral Bound Manual - yes please
Half-Life 2 Hat: Don't really wear baseball caps, personally
Stickers: Don't have anywhere to put them. Don't do bumper stickers and I grew out of the "stickers on the computer/console" thing in the NES era. And those ones that are designed for windows - yeah, no. Nowhere to put them.
DOOM 3 Pewter Figurine: I like this one. It's cool looking (Baron of Hell from GameStop), it's something cool on my desk and it's not too dorky.
So - what kinds of preorder bonuses do you guys like?

After that, at 9 PM PST/12 AM EST, I'll be hosting a talk show! Shackers can call in with Google Talk to zerodpx@gmail.com and talk on the air. Say whatever you want, and we'll all be wowed by your wit and wisdom! It's fun, try it!

Graphics and sound nice but the gameplay looks even more arcade than PGR2.
I really love the good compromise between arcade sillyness (burnout, outrun) and sims (GT4, GPLegends)
The handling in PGR2 was a nice inbetween, PGR3 just looks like "race really fast cars really fast and beautifully" :(
P.S I know I'm the minority, but I just like slower car classes and slightly more realistic gameplay.

Looks like you're pretty much doing the same as they are:

I felt like uploading some of these after another post I made. These were gathered from another site, I saved them a while ago and just picked a few to upload, so I'm not taking credit or anything. Just open the image, sit back a bit from your screen, and cross your eyes until the images line up in the middle. These are designed so you cross your eyes, not diverge them and look "into" the image like Magic Eye and the like.
Full 3D images on your puter! I think I once downloaded a mod that did this for Quake3. Now that was cool.

"there will be 15 to 20 Xbox 360 titles available on launch day" with around another half-dozen making it to market by the end of the year. For the moment, though, he would only confirm eight titles as being available the same day and date as the 360: Project Gotham Racing 3, Kameo, Perfect Dark Zero, Madden NFL 06, NBA Live 06, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06, Need for Speed Most Wanted, and FIFA 06: Road to FIFA World Cup.
As for the other seven to 12 Xbox 360 games that will be available on November 22, Reid said they would be announced "in the next few weeks."

Family Guy has a lot of jokes, some funny, some not. The Simpsons isn't as funny as it used to be, but it still has heart. They just don't go for shock value or mean jokes, there's a feeling of family in The Simpsons that is very rare in television. Especially for animated characters. There's some quality to the show that makes me wanna watch it forever, even if it continues to get less funny.
The Simpsons will likely be considered to be one of the best television series of all time, right up there with Lucy and some of the other classics.
