Guild Wars Tops A Million

NCSoft sends along a press release announcing that ArenaNet's Guild Wars has sold over one million copies since the game launched late April in North America and Europe. NCSoft is launching the online action RPG in Japan and Taiwan soon.

I'd actually forgotten that I still had this game installed. I should probably try playing my character up to 20 and see what the real endgame is like.

I still don't think this should be called a MMORPG. If it is then people need to REALLY stretch the meaning of MMORPG. Is Diablo an MMORPG? Because isn't GW the same thing just with a 3D chat room?

I'm really glad the game was a success. If you compare the early beta pics of GW to the new engine you can really see the quality of the art (and engine) and how it improved.

It's too bad the graphics made me naseaus for some reason. Everything was real .. shakey, and I couldn't spend more than 30 minutes at a time logged in.

I didn't really like this game in the long run. Which is strange because I've put 100's of hours into it. But I guess the best way to put it is it was supposed to be an anti-mmorpg, and all about fun... but in the end they bowed wayyyyyy to much in the opposite direction for the money hats $$$

Back in March of 2004 when I became an alpha tester for this game I, like many others, silently hoped about GW hitting the 1.000.000 mark after release. I guess we all kinda knew even back then that this game definitely had great potential.

Congrats to ArenaNet and their fantastic team for pulling this one off and proving to the gaming industry that things can indeed be done differently. I'm not just talking about the no-fee, I'm talking about everything ArenaNet has done and still is doing in regards to their fans, fansites and their dedication to the game. ItÃ¢Â€Â™s a rare gem these days.

This is nice to see...because my complaint against trying an MMORPG is the $50-60 initial purchase on top of $15/mo. Glad to see they're growing w/o a monthly model.
