First off, there's almost no chance that the game will run that smooth in Multiplayer, anyone remember how sucky it was in Doom 3 (the same engine used for this game)?

Secondly, Quake has such a generic world and setting, I think it's silly that they're trying to play that up more with this title.

Gamers are pretty tired of the whole 'Quake' and 'Doom' thing, just look at the backlash after Doom 3's release. It was a lot like Black & White, where everyone looked back and said, yeah it wasn't a bad game but lord, why did we initially give it such high scores...it certainly didn't deserve it.

No, thank you, but I'll stick to the awesome enjoyment of team-based gameplay in BF2, which I'm enjoying immensely along with everyone else. :)

Seriously, as time goes on Quake and Doom are losing their uniquity and see to be just different episodes of the same game. I say they take away the whole zombie-mech scheme and go back to te roots of Quake 1 and give it a goth theme.

i really dont know how to say it or explain it, but since i've played HL2, the doom3 engine looks so horrible. the graphics look so fake and pointy and ugly. i dunno why. the shadows look so fake and dark. maybe its the colours, but to me visuals are a very important part of the game, it adds to the gameplay for me.

i played doom3 first, and i really enjoyed it. then i played HL2 and holy shit it kicked ass. then i tried to play d3 expansion, and i gave up after 15 mins, it looked so horrible that i just couldnt go on.

quake4 looks the same, hopefully it will be fun to play as i havent played a raven game yet that i didnt like.

Eh, it doesn't look that bad, I like the explosion in the mech screen.

Here's the thing - this is a Raven game, not an id game. It's not gonna be about the artistic excellence that id exhibits with every one of their titles. However, I think it's fair to expect solid, enjoyable and even at times exciting gameplay from this title.

Raven aren't so bad, yeah sure they're not in danger of pushing any envelopes, crossing any lines, and that does make me sad because Hexen was just such a game, so they have let down their legacy in a way. But still, this won't be a bad game, I don't think. At least keep in mind that Raven have not made a bad game so far.

quake iv is looking okay, they should defenetely release a qtest/mptest as they have in the past, qtest, q3test, if anyone remembers. the reason for those was mainly to have the hardcore id software followers happy and give them a chance to test out their hardware and upgrade as necessary. unfortunately we're gonna be dealing with a middleman here, raven has done well, but I dont think they are going to follow along the true quake path. quake has always been the game that comes out with the new technology and it has awesome multiplayer roots... quake iv, using doom3 engine, puts all this in thin ice because unless you have a top of the line system, you will not be able to fully enjoy it, and it will most likely have alot of the same as far as doom3 goes. they should of released quake iv, and then doom3 as it would of probably made more sense of the technology use.

Quake 1 was the breakthrough.
Quake 2 was the story and the push of hardware.
Quake 3 was another push, with online multiplayer community that still rocks it. #ctfpickup on etg.

HOPE THAT:
Quake 4 follows the breakthrough, has the story, and pushes multiplayer even further. BUT THE ONLY WAY WE GONNA FIND OUT, Is if they release qtest/mptest as others have requested because us Quake followers deserve it. Then we can be the judge of direction and perhaps influence Quake IV to be more than just a doom3 story twist...

One thing I would like to see in these new games is per-pixel damage put to good creative use. Imagine if your bullets only damaged exposed flesh on those Stroggs and their armor deflected lead. Oh, and layers of armor that you can shoot off. That'd be neat, right?

Actually that would suck at a distance with a machine gun with a wide bullet spray, but still. Shoot it in the eyes!
