Neverwinter Nights 2 Announced
by Maarten Goldstein, Aug 04, 2004 10:06am PDTFrom IGN comes the news that Neverwinter Nights 2 is in development. Already working on Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2, Obsidian Entertainment will be the developer of this RPG sequel as well. The game is scheduled for a 2006 release.
BioWare will still be involved, however. The company will offer assets from the original Neverwinter Nights, as well as offer suggestions and oversight of the sequel's general design and development. "From our development of Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights to our engine licensure on Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2, we've been working collaboratively with Feargus [Urquhart] and other members of the Obsidian Entertainment team for years," said Dr. Greg Zeschuk, BioWare's Joint CEO.

This made my day.
And I'll tell you what pissed me off to no fucking end with NWN, only supporting the gamespy arcade in-game browser for multiplayer games.
You know how fucking frustrating it was a few weeks after release to try to find a server? bam wait a minute or two for servers to pop up, see a good one, click it, find out that you can't get in or it's no longer up, and BAM have to refresh from fucking scratch. Thing was a complete peice of crap.
You had no way of knowing the details on the server either, so it was a fucking crap shoot, completely rediculous and really turned me off of the multiplayer.
So this time around don't work out the exclusive deal and have an open master server, so I can go in with my all-seeing eye and use serious filters.
I didn't really like the radial menu either, it was pretty unweildy, but I'm not sure of a better option. it was great once you spent the time and got it all on hotkeys, but just took forever doing that it seemed.

Here's hoping that Obsidian does something interesting with this game and it's not just a cookie cutter rpg.

I hope they include a option to transfer your NWN1 character to NWN2.

For NWN2 they should improve the graphics a bit and enhance the toolset for mod makers. As long as NWN2 accomplishes these 2 things I'll be quite happy.
