The DS publisher list brings forth plenty of promise to the handheld; it's good to see companies are getting behind the device. It'll be interesting to see how these old favorites will utilize the touch screen, second screen, and style features of the DS ...or if they will at all. With Boktai, you can see things such as an area map or extended enemy details, but what the heck can you do with a soccer game? Maybe a fatigue chart? The penalty/corner kicking game could be given a lift by the stylus, such as slide the stylus across the screen to determine direction/strength, much like the trackballs used in golf or bowling arcade machines. I'm just anxious to see this innovation all the developers have been harping about.

I'm not really looking forward to the DS, Nintendo is going to be pushing the touch screen like the GBA-GC connection and no one will care. Newer more powerful hardware is always welcome, but the touch screen is just another lame gimmick. Just give me my single screen to concentrate on.

the difference is that everyone with a ds will have the touch screen and stylus, unlike only a small percentage of people having a gc and a gba. that way, if devs want to take make a game that depends on it, they don't have to worry about a fragmented audience.

What about future gameboys? you think they'll have dual screens to keep compatibility?

i couldn't say. it'll probably depend on how successful the dual/touch/stylus experiment ends up being.

for the time being though, that doesn't really matter.

Having tried the tech demos first hand, I can tell you that its certainly not a gimmick. It is new, and un-tested, so there's an air of caution everyone should have with regards to this, but being new and un-proven does not qualify it as gimmick material.

Even if this feature does not catch on, I applaud Nintendo for gambling on something new.

I wouldn't say it's entirely new and unproven technology in the gaming arena. Look at PDAs w/ Palm and Pocket PC. They seem to have found a niche as a gaming platform with a stylus. I couldn't tell you the number of hours I spent playing Slurp on my roommate's HP Jornada.

I love the gba connectivity, it's great with zelda. The DS will be great and will open up gameplay opportunities that would be otherwise impossible or a pain in the ass. I dont see how anyone could see that as a gimmick. Imagination is a wonderful thing.
