Mobius Digital Interview: Overcoming 20-Minute Time Loops in Outer Wilds

One of the most ambitious premises for an outer space game yet.

Mobius Digital's Alex Beachum and Wesley Martin joined us at the Shacknews E3 2018 booth for a discussion about the upcoming Outer Wilds, published via Annapurna Interactive.

Outer Wilds is an intriguing title with a few twists that you wouldn't expect from the genre. You'll explore an expansive handcrafted solar system in the world, while looking to unravel the answers behind an "ancient secret," as the trailer teases.

The "open world mystery," as Beachum described it, has you figuring out what's going on with a solar system that's caught in a 20 minute time loop. Every 20 minutes, you're forced to go back in time to wake up at the same time. Across multiple loops, you'll explore multiple planets throughout the Solar System. It's an intriguing premise, to be sure.

Outer Wilds is expected to release on PC, Xbox One, and Mac this year. It certainly looks like a strong contender for turning what we know about the survival genre on its head.
