Civilization VI has made the impressive jump from PC to iPad without missing a beat.

The Sid Meier's Civilization series has been at the top tier of PC strategy games for coming up on two decades, with the first Civilization releasing back in 1991 and the most recent title Civilization VI landing on Windows and Mac computers back in 2016. They're often fairly demanding titles, too, not just on player's skill sets but on the hardware that runs them. Well, oddly enough, the most recent and feature-packed title in the series has been ported over to iPad, meaning strategy fans can now get their fill of exploration and expansion on-the-go.

The iPad port of the game has been handled by Aspyr Media, and follows up on the original PC release of Civilization VI by just 14 months. Apparently it's a complete conversion too, with the new mobile version of the game sporting all of the same mechanics and features that fans saw in the PC version, including all 20 historical leaders, all diplomatic relation options, and an increased focus on city and technology building related to nearby terrain.

On top of all that, the iPad version of Civilization VI also includes a local multiplayer mode, one of the many features that made the Civilization games so popular to begin with. This multiplayer mode includes traditional competitive modes as well as cooperative experiences that have been specially-tailored for players to complete within a single take.

It likely goes without saying that the latest version of the game requires a fairly new iPad: it can only run on a device running iOS 11 or newer, with compatible iPad models including the 2017 iPad, the iPad Air 2, or any iPad Pro system. It also clocks in at just around 3.14 gigabytes, meaning owners might have to clear up some space before giving it a go.

Players who want to scoop up any version of Sid Meiers Civilization VI can do so now at a discounted price: until January 4, the game will be offered for 50% off, meaning it costs only a cool 30 bucks. This applies not only to the new iOS version but the original PC version as well, meaning players can pick it up at a discounted price as part of Steam's holiday sale or over on the Mac App Store.
