Masterworks weapons are now live in Destiny 2 as of Update 220.127.116.11, but upgrading old Legendary weapons to their Masterworks versions requires quite a few materials, namely Masterwork Cores. Thankfully, it’s relatively easy to get Masterwork Cores, so long as you’re willing to put in the time or spend a few Legendary Shards.
How to Get Masterwork Cores
Masterworks weapons offer a new way to enjoy Legendary weapons, but in order to upgrade your old gear into the newer versions, you’re going to need to get your hands on a lot of Masterwork Cores. At the moment, upgrading a Legendary to a Masterworks version (either Vanguard or Crucible version) requires a whopping 10 Masterwork Cores – which is quite a lot right now, but is likely to be nothing in a few weeks’ time.
The only way to get Masterwork Cores is by dismantling Masterworks weapons. This means, if you want to increase your stock of Masterwork Cores, you need to know how to get Masterworks weapons.
Once you have a Legendary Masterworks weapon, dismantling it will reward you with 1-3 Masterwork Cores. This is obviously not a lot for the low chances that are already present, but hopefully in a few weeks you’ll have enough Masterworks weapons so you can upgrade the guns you actually want to use.
Unfortunately, getting Masterwork Cores in Destiny 2 is entirely up to luck, so while some might find that RNG blesses them with a lot of Masterwork weapons, others will likely struggle even getting one from a Legendary engram.
