Fortnite is about to get a lot bigger. During Thursday night's Game Awards show, Epic Games announced that Fortnite Battle Royale would debut a new game mode that is exactly what it says it is. It's "50 Versus 50."

If the name didn't already give it away, this game mode splits 100 players into teams of 50. The rules are basically the same as in Fortnite Battle Royale, but the last team standing will be declared the winners. This new game mode follows some of the major updates Fortnite has had in recent weeks, which have added Launch Pads and Smoke Grenades, among other items.

This new game mode is a celebration of Fortnite reaching 30 million players since July, a number that has tripled since October. But 50 Versus 50 won't be around forever. It will only be available to Fortnite players until Sunday, December 17.

Fortnite Battle Royale is available for free right now on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. Find it on the Fortnite website.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
