As an apology, Sega is unlocking Sonic 1 on players' Steam accounts if they pre-ordered the game or bought the Collector's Edition.

The old-school Sonic Mania has been eagerly anticipated by fans wanting to relive the nostalgic early days of the speedy blue hedgehog. The great news is that the game is due out next week on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. The bad news: PC players are getting screwed again.

In an effort to polish the PC version a bit more, Sega is delaying the release for two weeks to August 29. As an apology, anyone who ordered the PC Collector's Edition or pre-ordered the game will have Sonic 1 unlocked on their Steam accounts when the other versions launch on August 15.

"In Sonic Mania, quality and attention to detail are some of the most important things for our team," Sega PR and Social Media Manager Aaron Webber said on the official Sonic Twitter. "We accept nothing but the best for Sonic Mania, and that's why we want to spend a little more time to polish the PC version of the game's release."

That has become a familiar refrain for PC versions of games being delayed (Destiny 2, cough) or betas happening late or not at all because of so many variations in specs. So PC fans should be used to it. But you can't really fault Sonic PC fans for reacting to this news like this:
