Helldivers was a much beloved co-op shooter in 2015 and has brought plenty of players together to bring deadly diplomacy to the galaxy. Now, Arrowhead Game Studios is returning to bring us a sequel on new platforms. Helldivers 2 will come to PlayStation 5 and PC. What’s more, we’ll be launching into the fight for Super Earth sometime in 2023.
Helldivers 2 was officially unveiled on the PlayStation Showcase 2023 presentation on May 24, 2023. The game is slated to launch on PS5 and PC platforms sometime this year. It looks like it will be very similar, and yet quite a bit different in a few ways from the previous game. The camera is set behind players this time in a third-person shooter format. That said, you’re still gunning down bugs with your friends and calling in all sorts of fortified military ordinance to get the job done, all while trying not to decimate your teammates or get decimated by your foes in the process. A new Helldivers game was a delightful and unexpected surprise to say the least. The original game came out in 2015 and has seen a wealth of content expansions following its release. It’s also remained as one of the most chaotic and fun co-op shooters around. We featured the game this very year in a Big Team Building livestream and had an absolute blast even 8 years later. It may be changing up a bit, but based on the trailer, it looks like Arrowhead still has a good handle on mixing zany chaos into good third-person co-op shooter gameplay.
Helldivers 2 is supposed to drop on PS5 and PC sometime in 2023, but we don’t know exactly when yet. Stay tuned for more details and we’ll share them here at Shacknews as they drop.
