When Overwatch 2 finally comes out, it will bring a lot of changes to the game, including team format changes, new PVE modes, and hero redesigns. Speaking to the last one, Blizzard made a small appearance during Summer Game Fest 2021’s festivities to share new details. We got a fresh look at known heroes Sombra and Baptiste, as well as the new looks coming for them in the new game.
Overwatch 2’s new look for Sombra and Baptiste appeared during the Summer Game Fest 2021 showcase on June 10, 2021. Similar to other heroes that we’ve seen so far, the new hero designs for Sombra and Baptiste aren’t looking outlandishly different from their original Overwatch designs. They simply have some tweaks and sprucing up going on. In fact, Blizzard spoke to how important it was to get Sombra right for the fans even as they were tweaking her design. She’s more wired up than ever before and Baptiste similarly looks like he’s taken on more of a medic’s uniform as opposed to his slightly more ragtag gear in the original game.
As usual, the information for Overwatch 2 comes at an absolute bare minimum trickle. Blizzard has played it extremely close to the chest outside of a few details here and there. We only just recently learned that the team format in the game will move to 5v5, which will likely heavily affect the meta and team compositions. Moreover, it seems as though Overwatch 2 is moving at an extremely cautious and slow pace. This is especially notable since former Overwatch lead and face Jeff Kaplan just recently left Blizzard and the major developer faced further layoffs throughout various divisions.
Regardless, we guess something is better than nothing? There’s still no end timeline for the actual launch date of Overwatch 2, so stay tuned for information as it comes.
