The Ascent is bringing another flavor of cyberpunk to the Xbox Series X, but this one is going to bring friends along for the ride. The Xbox Series X reveal showed us our first look at the action RPG in which one or multiple players will take on authority in a cyberpunk world with guns a blazing. From developer Neon Giant and publisher Curve Digital, The Ascent will apparently be coming as an Xbox exclusive to Xbox One and optimized for Xbox Series X in 2020.
The Ascent appeared on the Inside Xbox Series X game reveal livestream on May 7, 2020. Set in a cyberpunk world (those sure are popular these days aren’t they), Neon Giant will be putting us and what appears to be up to three friends in the role of characters trying to survive in a futuristic dystopia in which the highest tier of society has just collapsed. A power struggle is underway and chaos ensues as various other corporations, gangs, and other forces scramble to try to gain control of the power vacuum or take advantage in the confusion. The Ascent’s isometric action RPG style can be played solo, or you can be joined by three other players in a shooting and looting Cyberpunk experience. Set yourself apart and make your role clear in the group through various weapons and body augments that allow you to arm yourself to the teeth or be more stealthy in your engagements. It’s got a skill and action-based pace to it that doesn’t look far off from things like Arrowhead Game Studios’ Helldivers or Reikon Games and Devolver Digital’s Ruiner.
The Ascent will be available on Xbox One in 2020, but it will be optimized for Xbox Series X. What’s more, it will feature Smart Delivery. And although it’s no Cyberpunk 2077, it’s looking like it will be a good time to be had with friends when it comes this year.
