What is a Sentry Synth in Destiny 2?

Published , by Josh Hawkins

With the recent release of Joker’s wild, players can now dive into Destiny 2: Season of the Drifter. The first update of the new season of DLC brings some new game modes and items for players. If you’re playing through the new content, you’ve probably come across some new items like the Sentry Synth. What is the Sentry Synth? How do you use it? We’ll answer all of these questions in today’s guide.

What is the Sentry Synth?

The Sentry Synth is one of four different items that players can earn in the new Gambit Prime and The Reckoning game modes introduced with the Joker’s Wild update. As one of four synth types, players can acquire the Sentry Synth through a few different means that we’ll discuss later. Right now, though, let’s focus on the item itself.

You can use the Sentry Synth in the Weak Synthesizer to create a mote that you can activate in The Reckoning.

Available as a random drop—or as a reward for completing Gambit Prime bounties—the Sentry Synth allows players to create a mote that can be used in The Reckoning. This is a new game mode that allows players to unlock Gambit Prime armor, which grants some nice perks when you have multiple pieces of the set equipped.

In order to use the Sentry Synth, you’re going to need to activate it using the Weak Synthesizer. This will create a special mote that you can use to activate The Reckoning and unlock new gear. It is believed that you will be able to use multiple synths to raise the tier of the mote that you create, however this feature is not yet fully implemented at the time of this writing. Alternatively, you can use the Sentry Synth directly from your inventory, granting you a +3 boost to your armor set bonus for 30 minutes. This will grant you additional use of the higher-tier perks that require more armor pieces of that set to activate.

How to Get a Sentry Synth

Now that you know a bit more about what the Sentry Synth is, and what it does, let’s talk about how you can acquire more of this item. There are a few different ways you can get your hands on the Sentry Synth. First, you can acquire it as a random drop for completing matches in Gambit Prime. This is the new version of Gambit introduced with Joker’s Wild.

You can see how many Sentry Synths you've acquired by checking your inventory.

You can also acquire a Sentry Synth as a random drop when completing a match in The Reckoning. If you didn’t activate the portal using your own mote, you’ll be rewarded with one of the four different synths that are available in Destiny 2 right now. Alternatively, you can complete special Gambit Prime bounties that you acquire from The Drifter to be rewarded with a specific type of synth. You can see what synth the bounty will reward by checking the bounty details in your inventory.

You’ll want to acquire as many Sentry Synths as possible if you hope to acquire the full set of Gambit Prime armor.
