Nov 04, 2009 7:21pm CST tags: Band Hero, Activision, Legal, Lawsuit
Is Activision really getting sued again? No Doubt!

TMZ reports that the band No Doubt is suing Activision for "the unauthorized use of the No Doubt's name and likeness," in Band Hero, released on November 2. The band is suing for an injunction prohibiting the use of the band members' likenesses in songs other than the three No Doubt tracks included in the game, and seeks an undisclosed amount of damages.

The lawsuit, filed in L.A. County Superior Court, claims that the game "transformed No Doubt band members into a virtual karaoke circus act," a statement indicative of being able to play any of the game's more than 60 tracks using No Doubt avatars... Read more

It seems that 2009 still has a few surprises left, as Call of Duty publisher Activision today announced a dino-centric first-person shooter due out in less than three weeks.

In Jurassic: The Hunted, players find themselves on an "island lost in time" after venturing into the Bermud ...you know what? The story doesn't matter. What matters is you'll be shooting dinosaurs, sometimes in the face.

DJ Hero Intro: Shadow of the Turntable

Oct 13, 2009 1:35pm CST tags: DJ Hero, Trailer
Upon booting DJ Hero, you'll see this epic tale of those that live inside a giant record player and the tyranny of DJ Shadow. What it actually has to do with FreeStyle's music game, well, I'm not quite sure, but it's a neat little video nonetheless.

Due October 27 with 93 exclusive mixes and turntable controller in tow, the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii editions of DJ Hero will be $120, with a gold-trimmed Renegade Edition selling for $200. A PlayStation 2 version arrives the same day at $100.

Shack PSA: Buy 2 Games, Get 1 Free at Toys R Us

Oct 11, 2009 2:21pm CST tags: Shack PSA, Deals and Discounts
Forget discounts on select titles, Toys R Us has put its entire catalog of games on sale with this week's "Buy 2, Get the 3rd Free" offer.

Available both in-store and online, the retailer's promotion runs from today until the close of business on Saturday, October 17.

A few standard restrictions apply: the free game "must be of equal or lesser value to the lowest priced item purchased," and pre-orders for upcoming titles don't count.

Then again, given the loaded last few weeks of releases, not to mention Uncharted 2 and Brutal Legend this week, that last bit may be more of a blessing than a curse.

Marc Ecko Planning 'Getting Up' Sequel, Bemoans Atari

Oct 09, 2009 12:28pm CST tags: Marc Eckos Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure, Atari, Marc Ecko
Fashion designer Marc Ecko hopes to one day see a sequel to his action-adventure graffiti game Marc Ecko's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure, especially considering his view that "[original publishing partner] Atari shit the bed, you know?"

Chatting with Destructoid, Ecko said the first game was "a lot of blood, sweat, and tears" and added that he is "gonna fucking make that game again if it kills me." The first step on that road, it seems, involves clearing up some legal issues... Read more

Activision Closes 'Web of Shadows' Dev Shaba

Oct 08, 2009 2:50pm CST tags: Spider-Man: Web of Shadows, Shaba Games
Shaba Studios, the developer responsible for Spider-man: Web of Shadows, was shut down today by owner Activision according to several reports.

Though the doors of the San Francisco-based studio were closed, Kotaku put the number of terminated employees at just 30 out of the 61-strong team.

Founded in 1997, Shaba was largely responsible for ports of Tony Hawk games before shipping Web of Shadows in 2008.

Activision also recently cut 30 employees from its wholly-owned 7 Studios, a move it chalked up to "realignment" of its music genre workforce.
