If you're one of the many searching for a way to be fashionable and save the world at the same time, publisher Agetec has a game for you.

Titled Falling Star, the PlayStation 2 RPG has players assuming the role of Luna as she trains a pet to stop her mean old green-skinned uncle from ruining Dazzleon.

With cute characters, simplified controls and tons of mini-games, the title is aimed at younger children, but adults can play too when it arrives later this summer!

"The dress-up portion is what really makes the game stand out," explained a company representative. "If neighbors like the way you dress, they will start offering you missions, quests, mini-games. If they don't like the way you dress, they might not even talk to you!"

Gran Turismo Series Ships 50M Units Worldwide

May 09, 2008 11:00am CST tags: Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, Gran Turismo, Polyphony Digital, Sony, Software Sales
Sony Computer Entertainment announced today that Polyphony Digital's driving simulation series Gran Turismo has shipped over 50 million units across the world.

The franchise debuted in 1997 on the original PlayStation, and made the shift to PlayStation 2 with Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec in 2001. The series' first PlayStation 3 retail release recently arrived in the form of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, which is meant as a sample of the eventual Gran Turismo 5.

While North America has only received five Gran Turismo games so far, Japan and Europe have seen seven due to Gran Turismo Concept 2001 Tokyo (PS2) in 2002 and Gran Turismo 4 Prologue (PS2) in 2003.

Sony noted that of the 50 million units shipped, 2 million of those were Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. However, it was not clear if Prologue's contribution only referred to physical copies, or if it included digital downloads of the title through the online PlayStation Store.

Next Call of Duty Due This Year on PC, Consoles; Takes Place in 'New Military Theater'

May 09, 2008 9:17am CST tags: Call of Duty 5, Activision
The next entry in the Activision-owned wartime shooting franchise Call of Duty will take place in a "new military theater," according to Activision Publishing CEO and president Mike Griffith.

Speaking during a conference call yesterday, Griffith said that the unnamed sequel, which many unofficially refer to as Call of Duty 5, will arrive on PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, Xbox 360, and Nintendo DS later this year.

The CEO did not elaborate further on the game's setting. His comments suggest that, contrary to past reports, the title may not return to the World War II setting featured in the first three Call of Duty titles.

As pointed out by Gamasutra, no details were provided as to which studio is developing the game. Job listings have indicated that Call of Duty 3 developer Treyarch may be returning to the franchise, with speculation that series creator and Call of Duty 4 developer Infinity Ward is already working on Call of Duty 6.

Publisher Sierra has announced that video game based off the upcoming film The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor will hit PlayStation 2, Wii, and Nintendo DS on July 22, a few days shy of the movie's August 1 release.

The Nintendo DS version of the third-person action title is being handled by WET creators A2M, while Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy and Ice Age 2: The Meltdown developer Eurocom has been tasked with the PlayStation 2 and Wii editions. The game is also said to feature "hieroglyphic decoding gameplay elements."

The title continues the Brendan Fraser-centric franchise's tradition of cross-marketing video games alongside the films. The first movie was accompanied by a video game release on the PlayStation, the sequel had PlayStation 2 and Game Boy Color renditions, and the Scorpion King spin-off appeared on PlayStation 2, GameCube, and Game Boy Advance.

Rock Band Expansion Coming To PS2, Wii

May 05, 2008 11:13am CST tags: Rock Band
Developer Harmonix has announced an expansion pack for the PlayStation 2 and Wii editions of its multi-instrument music title Rock Band.

Due out on July 15 and priced at $29.99, Rock Band Track Pack Volume 1 contains 20 new tracks, all of which have been released as downloadable content for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions.

The expansion disc solves the issue of lacking storage capacity on the PlayStation 2 and Wii, which prevented the release of additional songs as downloadable content. It should be noted that the disc only contains a small portion of the numerous downloadable tracks that have been made available for the other editions.

To break it down, PS2 and Wii owners will be paying roughly $1.50 for each song, which is comparable to the average cost of $2.00 for an individual song download on X360 or PS3. However, some downloadable songs are bundled together or priced separately at a slightly lower cost.

The track list is as follows... Read more

Brett Favre Confirmed as Madden 09 Cover Model

Apr 25, 2008 9:36am CST tags: Madden NFL 09
Following up on yesterday's reports, publisher Electronic Arts has publicly announced that retired Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre will be featured on the cover of Madden NFL 09.

Set to arrive August 12, this year's iteration of the EA Tiburon-developed football franchise will hit PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Xbox, Wii, Nintendo DS and PSP. A PC version will not be released due to the platform's "serious business challenges."

As Favre is the first retired player to be featured on a Madden cover, it is believed that his status will make him exempt from the fabled Madden curse, which is said to result in injuries or a poor seasonal performance for the game's cover athletes.

Report: Brett Favre Tapped for Madden 09 Cover

Apr 24, 2008 4:02pm CST tags: Madden NFL 09
GameDaily is reporting that the coveted cover shot of EA Tiburon's Madden NFL 09 will be going to recently retired Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre.

The report cites an announcement on the Madden NFL 09 Facebook page which states that the cover athlete is expected to be announced tomorrow, April 25. Favre is scheduled to be on tonight's episode of the Late Show with David Letterman.

GameDaily suggests that, similar to previous years, Favre will make the announcement of the Madden cover during his appearance tonight's Late Show. EA has previously used late-night shows to announce the Madden cover, such as Tennessee Titans quarterback Vince Young's Madden 08 announcement last year on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Should the report prove accurate, an official announcement from EA will most likely be issued tomorrow morning.

Monopoly Hits PS2, X360, Wii This Fall

Apr 23, 2008 9:30am CST tags: Monopoly, Electronic Arts, Screenshots
Electronic Arts Casual Enetrainment has unveiled more details on the upcoming Monopoly game, which it first mentioned back in February.

Based on the well-known Hasbro board game of the same name and supporting up to four players, Monopoly is slated to hit PlayStation 2, Xbox 360 and Wii this fall alongside the debut of Hasbro's Monopoly Here & Now: The World Edition board game.

According to EA, the electric version of the game that seems to never end will pack faster gameplay that "eliminates downtime" and multiple game boards. The company also teased that the title will feature a "party twist," likely referring to the inclusion of mini-games such as escaping jail.

The odd phrasing of the announcement, which specified that the title will arrive "on next-generation consoles including," suggests that a PlayStation 3 version may eventually arrive as well.

"EA has done a tremendous job of re-imagining the world's most popular board game while also creating new digital twists that can only be achieved in an interactive world," said Hasbro digital media manager Mark Blecher. "Rolling the dice and passing Go will never be the same."

Guitar Hero 4 to Feature More Instruments, Vocals

Apr 21, 2008 2:53pm CST tags: Guitar Hero IV, Guitar Hero, Activision, Rock Band
Activision CEO Bobby Kotick said that the fourth installment of Neversoft's Guitar Hero franchise will incorporate additional instruments similar to competitor Harmonix's Rock Band (PS2, PS3, Wii, X360).

"[Guitar Hero IV's] not just about guitars," Kotick told IGN. "We'll include a lot of other instruments, vocals. It will help us expand internationally. It's the first game we've had in which we can use local content and local bands."

The runaway success of the multi-instrument rhythm game Rock Band, which includes drums and vocals on top of guitars, had led many to speculate that the traditionally guitar-only Guitar Hero franchise would eventually see the addition of more instruments.

Guitar Hero IV is expected for release this fall, as the third Guitar Hero title announced by Activision for release in 2008. The first two were announced as Guitar Hero: On Tour and Guitar Hero: Aerosmith.

Moreover, publisher Activision says that the new title will allow gamers choose how they want to play—take up the mantle of the hero, complete missions and protect the innocent, or ignore them and be an anti-hero.
