Noby Noby Boy Multiplayer Footage Continues to Baffle, Delight

"In single player, the game allows BOY to eat another BOY as well as people and animals, etc," says Noby Noby Boy creator Keita Takahashi in a new PlayStation blog post.

"In Multiplayer though, eating everything has some funny consequences. For example, if the head of a 1P BOY eats the rear of a 2P BOY, the two players end up with a combined BOY. Head: Player 1, Rear: Player 2.

"This could be very confusing because one BOY is controlled by two players. Moreover, the fact that the game is compatible for up to four players could bring even more chaotic situations. Doesn't that sound fun?"

Noby, set to be released on PlayStation Network next Thursday for $5, was explained by Takahashi on the PlayStation blog: "Basically players can control and stretch Boy, the main character of the game. As players stretch Boy, the lengths to which he grows are uploaded to a persistent character known as Girl, who grows at the same rate as the combined length of all the players in the world.

"Girl starts at Earth and expands around the solar system. When Girl reaches a new milestone in the solar system, new areas are unlocked as playable stages for everyone around the world."

Publisher Namco Bandai also revealed that the game will be sold for a mere $4.99, and explained how gamers worldwide will collaborate to unlock new stages:

As players stretch BOY in their individual play sessions, the lengths to which they grow are uploaded to a persistent character known as GIRL, who grows at the same rate as the combined length of all the players in the world. GIRL starts at Earth and expands through the solar system as more games are played and BOYs from all players continue to grow. When GIRL reaches a new milestone in the solar system, these areas are unlocked as playable stages in the game for everyone around the world.

Katamari Damacy Creator's New Game Coming to Tokyo Game Show

Sep 30, 2008 10:00pm CST tags: Noby Noby Boy
Nobi Nobi Boy, the new game from Katamari Damacy auteur Keita Takahashi, will be shown at the Tokyo Game Show late next week.

Though the game was unveiled last summer, virtually nothing has been heard about the game. Takahashi himself has remained silent about the game, only expressing his desire to do something new after the wacky rolling-everything-up sim Katamari Damacy became a cult classic worldwide--and a lucrative franchise for publisher Namco Bandai.

Nobi Nobi Boy is known to be a PlayStation 3 title featuring a worm-like protagonist. According to Siliconera, who spotted the news, the game will not be playable during next week's expo.

Katamari Creator's PS3 Project Revealed

Namco Bandai has unveiled the first details on the latest project from Katamari Damacy creator Keita Takahashi. Titled Nobi Nobi Boy, the PlayStation 3 game apparently features a lengthy, worm-like protagonist who can twist around himself and other objects.

Takahashi, a formally trained artist, famously expressed frustration with Namco's handling of the series he created, decrying the video game industry's emphasis on constant sequels over newly developed material. He resisted taking part in the sequel Everybody Loves Katamari, but relented when Namco threatened to release the game as a quick rehash. Since then he has refused to participate in development on further Katamari games. Today's news marks the first indication as to the identity of Takahashi's post-Katamari projects.

Nobi Nobi Boy is currently only known to be in development for the PlayStation 3. No other information, such as further gameplay details or a release date, has been revealed. Shacknews has sent inquiries to Namco Bandai for a response on the matter.
