Still seeking to make amends for Elemental: War of Magic's "disastrous launch," developer Stardock has announced that everyone who buys the PC fantasy strategy title before October 31 will receive its first two expansion packs for free.

Earlier this month, Stardock revealed that work on the first expansion pack would begin after it launches Elemental patch 1.1--an update that will be available in beta form to all players in "early November." Back then, Stardock had only revealed plans for the first expansion to be released free. The expansion will also be when veteran modder Derek 'Kael' Paxton will take over from the former lead designer, Stardock CEO Brad Wardell.

There's still no solid word on what the first expansion pack will bring, let alone the second, but Stardock has previously spoken of new quests, factions and the like. Stardock vows that as well as developing expansions, it "has committed to providing significant amounts of free post-release content and updates well into the future."

    Game.

Worth the money, or no? I got burned by Civ 5... will this heal my wounds, or pour salt in them?

Civ 5 suffered from super hype... this game, I have no expectations going in.

be ready to do a lot of self education about the game. (It's ok when you know about it)...

This is a kind of mix between civ and homm, so you can decide for yourself !

Careful, if you criticize Civ5 openly here you'll be pelted with insults and insinuations that you don't know how to play games and are just nerd raging.

To be fair, I've backed up every one of my criticisms clear examples and explanations.

They're just butthurt. I'm hoping all the honest criticism from the fans will help make Civ V better in the long run.

I do as well. The latest patch and comments coming from FIraxis are very encouraging that they understand much of the criticism.

civ 5 was good but i am more into the fantasy realm and i was disappointed that this didn't review well . i am ok with the civ5 gameplay and mechanics but not into the real world stuff. i'm sick at home today maybe ill try out a demo if they have one.

I was a HUGE MoM fan. This game is terrible.

The AI sucked, now they claim it's going to be better. I'll believe it when I see it.

The game has some nice features, like being able to design your own custom units to build, and an interesting way of doing their tech tree. I also like the graphics.

But games like this really need good AI: that's the heart of them. I have my doubts that another month of AI work will bring it much up from terrible... maybe to not-so-terrible. If they keep working the AI, it could be a good game.
