Upgraded Xbox.com With Web-based Avatar Editor Launches Tomorrow

8
Microsoft plans to relaunch the official Xbox site tomorrow with a major redesign. Along with the fresh coat of paint you can see in the images Xbox Live's 'Major Nelson' shared in his post, the new site boasts several new functional enhancements including:
  • A browser-based Avatar editor that lets you preview how new items will look before buying them
  • A combined view for messages, friend, and game requests
  • Improved notification of your current subscription standing
  • Family reports to see what and how they are using Live
  • Web-based games to play with your Xbox Live friends on the web or a Windows 7 phone
  • Better search and improved filtering for the marketplace

To make the switch Xbox.com and the Xbox forums will go offline at 5am Eastern tomorrow, October 20. Getting a new site up is an inexact science so no time for it to go live is specified, but expect the new Xbox.com to appear shortly thereafter. Major Nelson also notes that the Xbox Live service will not affected by the upgrade.

Seriously, tired of pimping avatars. It's a nice novelty but I was semi against this before it made its appearance when everything was just icons and perfectly fine.

Why do you hate the third dimension?

so..your against this because it affects your games? Are you against this because it costs you money? Are you against this because you have to pay attention to avatars? Are you against this because avatars are made to be important?

O, so your one of those people who are against features which dont benefit themselves. I see. Makes sense now.

I'm against it because when I load up my friends list a) it takes longer and b) You have to hover over each avatar in turn to see the fucking name of the person!

As if that wasn't bad enough, when someone is in a party they may or may not be the first name to pop up. The interface is retarded and the avatars are really ugly. They have so little artistic merit and the whole friends section on the dash is a massive jumble of noise and inaccessible information. I hate it.

As a note to help out I have a friend who just uses the big silver button and does everything through the blade interface.

Yeah that would be cool but it seems to take far to long to open and be responsive. I really wish I could go back to the old dash, I pretty much hate everything about the new one. I hope the Kinect one is better (it looks cleaner at least).

Previously, you had to hit the guide button and look at the friends list that way. Oddly, YOU CAN STILL DO THAT NOW! Yay! So you can do it exactly the way you used to, and not have to worry about anything at all.

If you're going to whine and complain, get something real to complain about.
