Update: The contest has ended and our five winners have been selected at random. RustySpannerz, passingstranger, Dick Marcinko, GOBGoat and funnyguy84 are the lucky lot who should check their Shackmessages for instructions on how to claim their prize.

Original: A 150MB-ish demo for Penumbra developer Frictional Games' new puzzling survival horror Amnesia: The Dark Descent can now be downloaded from FileShack in Windows, Mac and Linux flavours.

The demo contains a selection of Amnesia's earlier levels, which Frictional explains it has chosen to give a good cross-section of the game. As a bonus, the sanity mechanics have apparently been cranked up so it's easier to lose your mind. Lovely!

Amnesia will be released on September 8 for $20. Pre-order from Frictional before then and it'll only cost you $18, plus you'll get a key to activate the game on Steam.

Alternatively, you can post a comment to this story for a chance to win one of five free copies. Only the first comment counts and we'll pick the winners at random on Monday.

I liked what I've played of Penumbra, so I hope this is just as good. I guess I'll download the demo and see!
