4mm Announces 'Def Jam Rapstar'

4mm Games, the studio created by former Rockstar founders, today announced its first project, a hip-hop rhyme-spitting game based on the Def Jam license.

The self-explanatory title is set for release this winter, and is being developed for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii, according to IGN. "There are not very many products out there that speak directly to the hip-hop consumer base," said Def Jam Interactive VP of marketing Lauren Wirtzer. "More than just a music game, this is a game that really incorporates all of the crucial elements of this lifestyle. It's not just about music, it's about swagger."

Though specific details on the game were not released with the announcement, 4mm's Nicholas Perrett says the goal is to appeal to a broad audience.

"If I had a grandma who was into a particular type of hip-hop song, I want to know that I've got that as much as the one that my fourteen year old nephew is listening to," said Perrett.
